Fantasy News

Fake Teams, the SB Nation website dedicated to all things fantasy (well, maybe not all things), has a new writer, Eric Hinz. Matt Watson, who previously ran the site, has to leave due to other writing obligations.

As for me, I'm contemplating whether I should cut ties with Jhonny Peralta, who's been a major disappointment. I've had to resort to starting Michael Cuddyer in his place, so, as you can see, I'm still holding out hope for a Peralta turnaround.

Peralta
I likewise have Peralta on one of my teams, thinking he would provide offensive stability within my lineup, but has been a bust.

The same can be said for someone like Jim Edmonds, I thought it was a steal drafting him in the mid-rounds, but has been injured and hasn't produced up to potential.

Peralta
Upon doing a little research, I feel like Peralta's slump has been due to a bit of bad luck. His stats are pretty much right at career norms all across the board, still hitting a good percentages of line drives, still walking at his normal rate and striking out at an alarming rate. The biggest difference between this year and last is his BABIP is about half a point lower than last years, his BA with RISP is significantly lower (.302 to .213), and his HR/F is also much lower (19.6% down to 9.4%). I have not personally watched any Indians game this year so I can't back up if Peralta is looking good or not, but statistically speaking, his stats should regress to the norm. Given his good LD%, his BABIP should go up. His BA/RISP should go up as research have shown that clutch hitting doesn't. Althought his HR/F rate was ridiculously high, his rate should regress to about 12%. This should result in a higher BA, OBP, SLG. Hopefully that's the case.

Nice work, Alpheus
For now, I'll keep Peralta on my bench, along with my team's other unexpected underachievers. And I agree that last season's HR/F (19.6%) seems a bit high.

Peralta
Peralta's bat is coming alive of late, raising hit BA by 30 points in the past five games
