MLB-DirecTV deal

According to this NY Times article, MLB is about to announce a deal with DirecTV for exclusive rights to the Extra Innings package, which allows out-of-market fans to see up to 60 out-of-market games per week.  This package had been available on Dish, DirecTV, and cable, but now will only be available on DirecTV.  

If this deal goes through, as an out-of-market fan (I live in Washington DC), I (and those like me) will be totally unable to watch the Jays (unless they are playing, for example, the Orioles, the Nationals, or some other game shown on regular TV.)  I am not able to switch to DirecTV because I live in a condominium and our bylaws don't allow satellite dishes.  The only other option is to purchase MLB.tv and get the games streamed on the web, but to do that, I would first have to get broadband internet, which is quite expensive (and which less than half of Americans have).  Only 15 million Americans have DirecTV compared to the 100 million Americans that previously had access to Extra Innings through cable or other satellite providers  

Once again, in my opinion, this is an unbeliveably shortsighted deal struck by MLB which, for the sake of a few extra bucks (okay $700 million) is ACTIVELY PREVENTING people from watching.  It is a perfect example of being paid to shoot yourself in the foot.  

I am also fairly certain that it would arguably violate american antitrust law but for baseball's antitrust exemption.  I really think this is a bad move for baseball.  also, I am quite annoyed personally (as you can probably tell) as it means I will not be able to watch the Jays or the Mets this season at all unless they are playing a local team.  

Extra innings was the coolest (and quite reasonable in terms of cost), but I guess it was only a matter of time until MLB figured out a way to mess it up.
