The Yankees did end up making the Proctor for Betemit deal, which is probably best viewed as opt-out insurance. (I think we're all familiar with the huge disparity between Betemit's BA and his OBA, which makes him a perfect fit for the walk-happy Yankees in everything but salary.) Les Sox Rouge made a huge rent-a-player move, trading Kason Gabbard for a few months of Eric Gagne.
