Skydome: Bluebird Banter Theme Song
Hi everyone. As some of you may know, I'm in a band. Anyway, we have a song called "Skydome" that I thought might be appropriate as a sort of theme song for the site, about a couple on their way to a Jays game. Here it is, with lyrics below. This is just a rough live recording from one of our recent gigs, but it doesn't sound too bad. Anyway, let me know what y'all think
You get off work at 6:15
I'm leaving at 6:30 on the dot
Take the subway to the Queen's Quay
Or else drive and try for a close parking spot
You've had a rough day I can tell
By your car's ashtray overflowing
I check for quarters in the seat
To feed the metres at the Skydome
And on the way going
I hope the dome's open
T-dot's lights are bright
On this hot July night
Just drive
I wouldn't mind a short quick stop
At Kensington Market to end the day
But I know you've got somewhere to go tomorrow
And we're out of loonies anyway
So on the way home
We're fighting again but we both know
One day, we'll be
Perfect like Stieb.

It's really good....
You could have put the chords in with the lyrics for those of us too lazy to figure them out ourselves……..
haha, thanks!
C and F for the verses. The other (indented) part is Am – Fmaj7 for the first two lines and Gsus4-G Fsus4- F for the second two lines
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
Agreed
Well done. Great tune.
One minor quibble. The name of the street you mentioned in the song is actually pronounced “Queen’s key,” not “kway” as in the song. Obviously this falls under the category of artistic license, but the stickler in me thought it bore mentioning.
thanks for the correction!
I had no idea, despite having been there, oh, a dozen times. Will definitely fix that for the future,
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
Interestingly
in a pavement song (I think it is Harness Your Hopes, though I’m not actually 100% sure), Malkmus says “it’s on scenic quay” and pronounces it “kway,” is it pronounced differently in different places or is he just wrong?
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" --Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Without any evidence or research to back this up...
I think it might be a US vs Canada/Commonwealth pronounciation difference
quay should be pronounced key.....
officially but people will play with words. Buoy is boy but you hear Boo e a lot. When it’s a word not often spoken people won’t know how to pronounce it.

I’ve just joined your site today and how fun that you have your very own Theme Song for it! I enjoyed the listen.
