Weekly Poll

No surprise, Joe Carter won the right fielder poll, though Jesse Barfield kept it close. I figured Shawn Green would have had a few more votes but he came in 3rd. I would be interested in talking to the people that gave Bob Bailor and Raul Mondesi 1 vote each.

Anyway, on to the DHs, we haven't had anyone DH for a long stretch for the Jays, not many have held the job for more than a couple of years, but there are a few good names on the list. As always, you are welcome to campaign for your favorite player, but no calling the front runner a socialist or a Muslim just to try to bring him back to the pack.  Aren't you glad the American election will be over with by this time next week?

So

do we immediately ban anyone who votes for Hillenbrand not as a joke?

Or Stairs

We love him, but he sucked as a DH.

true

but at least that can be explained by sentimentality. Shea was terrible and a total jerk.

Can we do worse than banning?

I would think tar and feathers would be a just punishment.

here i am… i am the one who voted for mondesi… he was awesome i thought…. rocket for an arm, plus he had that great affro

I looked for a picture of the great affro on google but didn't come up with any....

His first season in Toronto was good.271/.329/.523. Went downhill from there .252/.342/.453 and .224/.301/.435. He did have a heck of an arm. His committment to winning baseball games wasn’t what I’d like to see. I can’t see voting for him over Carter/Barfield/Green/Rios….but since you’ve beat me out in the football pool most weeks, I won’t mock you for it…..too much.

i know that stats wise he probably wasn't better than any of those guys...

but i just liked him because he had so many outfield assists, which i LOVE to see

Made me look it up....

First season with the Jays he played only 96 games in RF with 5 assists. The next season 149 games and 19 (!) assists, a career high. The season he was traded to the Yankees, between the 2 teams he had 7 assists in 132 games. He did have the amazing year.

Barfield had a hell of a arm too, his assist counts in his full seaons with the Jays: 15, 17, 10, 22, 20, 17, 12 and the season he was trade to the Yankees 20.

Both had great arms. Ok…Raul isn’t that bad a choice….

I personally think

that Green had a better arm than either of them. Granted I don’t remember much about Barfield (I was 5 during his last season with the Jays), but I have seen highlights. The craziest thing I remember about Green was the game I attended where he picked up a hit off the wall in the right field corner and one-hopped a throw to third base.

I don't think he had an arm like Barfield's

Barfield is the one I remember turning a ball hit into right a ground out…9-3 on your score card.

Fukudome did that once in Japan
