A.J. To Sign With Yankees

Burnett has 'reached argeement' agreement to sign with the Yankees. He is to get $82.5 million over five years. $82.5 million. Five years. That economic down turn must be just something to sell papers. I think it would be a good time to revisit all to those newspaper stories saying AJ would be a fool to opt out, one of which was talked about here.

I don't know man....seems like a heck of a lot of money to spend on someone that injury prone. How many people here think that the Yankees will come to regret this contract? Ok. You can all put down your hands down.

Actually let's put up a poll......

And we only get a sucky second round pick from the Yanks

I suspect this was not the intent of the free agent draft pick compensation system.

I can't wait...

to go to the Rogers Centre when Burnett is in town with the Yankees. I wish him well, but that doesn’t mean I want the Jays to ABSOLUTELY FUCKING DESTROY HIM.

I actually voted no

A.J. is good at pitching, and the Yankees can afford for him to miss a few starts here and there. It will be interesting to see him in the Bronx though, who knows how it will go.

We only had a second-round pick from the Braves, though not as good a 2nd rounder.

What's interesting is all the MSM articles when we signed Brunette

Yes, I spelled his name that way on purpose, the guys a baby. I apologize in advance for all of my vitriol

I remember when the Jays signed him they were regularly panned throughout the media for their foolish investment in a .500, injury prone pitcher. I remember one article that said the Jays would be paying 1 mil per win. Oh, but now that he’s signed with the Yanks, for more money, they are geniuses. It makes me sick.

I’m pretty sure he’ll crumble under the pressure of pitching in NY.

See ya, AJ, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

in the end, he made $28,600,000 from the Jays

and won 38 games. Pretty good deal for the Jays if you ask me, they paid A.J. less than $10 million/year for 3 years in the prime of his career. The Yankees are going to be paying almost twice as much for most, if not all, post-prime years. A.J. is good enough that they should still be effective years, but that doesn’t mean the Jays didn’t get a very good deal. Essentially, Ricciardi signed AJ, a very good pitcher, to a contract that immediately thereafter became the floor contract for mediocre (and worse) pitchers.

Personally, I think he’ll be fine in NY, but I could be wrong. I’m sure he will hit the DL occasionally, but it’s a good investment for a team like the Yankees to pay above-average players who may be injury prone, because they have the resources to fill in the injury gaps.
