Game 17, April 18, 2008: Detroit at Toronto

Detroit Tigers @ Toronto Blue Jays

Friday, April 18- Toronto, Ontario
7:07 PM (EDT)

Detroit Tigers
Ivan Rodriguez C
Placido Polanco 2b
Gary Sheffield dh
Magglio Ordonez lf
Miguel Cabrera 3b
Carlos Guillen 1b
Edgar Renteria ss
Marcus Thames rf
Brandon Inge cf

Pitching: Kenny Rogers, LHP

Toronto Blue Jays

Shannon Stewart lf
Aaron Hill 2b
Alexis Rios rf
Vernon Wells cf
Frank Thomas dh
Rod Barajas 1b
Marco Scutaro 3b
Greg Zaun c
John Macdonald ss

Pitching: David Purcey, LHP

Hey all. Heading out for a quick run, will be back for gametime. Is Lyle hurt? If not, I submit that starting Rod Barajas instead of Lyle at first base is a dumb way to accomodate a rookie pitcher. Barajas has an under .300 lifetime OBP, even against lefties, and Overbay's defense would give him the nod even if they were similar offensively. Of course Lyle hasn't been swinging very well...

More importantly, let's go Purcey!!!!

This looks like our worst possible offensive configuration.

I did notice (and stated in a comment on the drunks’) that we’re 8-3 in front of our opponents’ fans and 0-5 in front of our own, and this is the other series the braintrust marketed to out-of-towners.

Wait, I just noticed Pudge is leading off

That’s awesome and hilarious.

The first base line

Now walks Polanco

I don’t think he’s thrown a ball in the strike zone so far. The hit and the foul balls I think were misses too.

Purcey

Purcey isn’t ready for the majors. His career minor league stats are horrible, and his stuff doesn’t project all that well.

What will happen with Zach Jackson, by the way? The Brewers seem to have too much depth for him to get a call-up.

At least he's riding the crest of a wave

Niemann

Niemann’s another prospect who’s been around for a while. He’s faring much better against the White Sox.

The Devil Rays are like the Quebec Nordiques of ‘90s – Eventually all those last-place finishes and subsequent high draft picks would create a huge stream of young talent. Only instead of changing cities before their huge breakout, they changed their team name.

Accardo

completes the inning. I guess the plan is to use some combination of Accardo, Downs, and Tallet for the 7th and 8th and then go to Beej for the 9th?

I guess

I picked up Downs again for roto because if I hold the number of starters I had been, I was going to be way over the limit, and the innings I was getting weren’t even that good.

I hope he does

My ERA has improved to third, but I’m still dead last in WHIP, and my offense has stagnated recently. Also, I want the Jays to win.

Accardo

What’s up with him this season? Have either of you noticed anything different in his delivery?

Splitter sucks

If he throws it they hit it. If he doesn’t they can sit fastball.

Nope

Of course the other reliever warming is a lefty, and isn’t Jones one too? Which limits your ability to use him if not here.

There's no way Barajas is hitting here

Overbay, Stairs, and Inglett should all be hitting in this inning.

Barajas is in there with the bat

Unless Overbay is hurt or Jones has reverse splits, this is serious Waning Gibbons.
