Robinzon Diaz....
The Jays are calling up Robinzon Diaz to fill the spot that releasing Frank Thomas opened. I'm truly pissed....I really wanted them to bring up Lind. I think they need a left handed batter.
That being said Diaz is hitting .368/.390/.553, one homerun. My worry....Gibbons won't use him as a catcher. We'll be blessed with the sight of Barajas DHing and any number of middle infielders playing LF. Similtiously slowing Diaz's progress and hurting the Jay's offense.
With Stewart hurting and not hitting when he is in the line up I don't have high hopes for the offense. But maybe Gibbons will play Diaz. Maybe Stewart will play and play well or maybe he'll be DLed and then maybe Lind will be called up. And maybe our offense will improve......
I don't like them releasing Thomas, it bothers me that they say they want to win this year but then they make decisions based on money instead of baseball. But who knows....it might all work out.
I might win the lottery too......

Lind
Lind is hurt right now nursing a mild neck injury so I understand the Diaz move. Also Diaz much like Thigpen is very athletic, could play in the field if needed but unlikely. Lind seems the likely candidate in the future to make up some added at bats with Thomas’ departure. Think the Jays might be re-thinking the Johnson release now? And hey all this crap talk about Bonds is silly. He isnt going to Toronto…but Sosa…now thats an interesting possibility. Suprised we havent heard anything there because as far as i know he is still a FA. The Thomas deal at least frees up 10 million next season which could be spent better than a Glaus/Thomas or Burnett.

I can’t see Sosa….his bat looked really slow last year. And I think Bonds carries too much baggage. I’d like them to give Lind 450 at bats. Play him every day, even if he goes 0 fer the day before. Find out if he’s the future or if they have to find a free agent next year. But what I figure they’ll do is play him if he hits and lose him on the bench if he doesn’t.
Since they have Diaz up, I hope they use him…he can’t be worse than Barajas as dh.
I hope the Jays would realize the mistake they made with Johnson….to save a bit of money they picked the guy that’s poor in the field, can only play left, gets injured every season, and when he’s not hurt doesn’t hit like a left fielder should. All his value is in batting average. No power, no on base. Oh and he doesn’t run near as well as Johnson, which is something we are supposed to value this year.

Thomas
For the record I dont agree with the Thomas situation from both sides of the coin. Thomas was considered a leader in the clubhouse, and for that I was shocked at his reaction to the benching. Although he was struggling at the plate as he often does through the first month of the season, we aren’t a better team without him. Bonds would add a nice left handed bat to the middle of the order but i dont see the move being made to bring him on board.

Thomas actually didn't struggle in the first month of the season
until 2006, when he was coming off missing the last half of the previous season to injury.

If Diaz is going to be the starting catcher next season
he’s going to need some starts this year, as most teams aren’t comfortable with a rookie catcher as their number one. If Diaz doesn’t get his starts, we can expect him to be the backup next season I think.
