If It Weren't For Disappointments I Wouldn't Have Any Appointments: Game 22 - Toronto at Disneyworld
Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays, Apr 24, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
Well, yet another ugly game yesterday. Matt Stairs hit two HRs but Doc was unable to hold the Rays in the 6th and the Jays offense continued to sputter. Whenever a team has three count them three catchers in the starting lineup, that's generally not a very good thing. Toronto's combined to go 0-11 with a walk yesterday. Tonight, Dustin McGowan faces off against Andy Sonanstine. With the way this team is playing at the moment, I'm a little relieved that I'll be at the Mets-Nationals game and not around to watch. The Jays can't snap out of it fast enough. Let's go Jays!

Scutaro first pitch swinging, bases loaded, 2 out
flies to right. The pitcher’s thrown like 30 pitches this inning and walked back to back, and you’re jumping on the first pitch? I guess that’s what they mean by pressing.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And Hinske with another RBI vs. us
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
At least we caught him stealing
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Dusty walks two in a row with 2 out
after getting 5 Ks in the first 2 innings.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And now a wild pitch moves them both into scoring position
C’mon, Dusty!
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Walks them loaded
now the top of the order comes up.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Everyone loading the bases with 2 out and stranding them all
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I don't know
He wasn’t in the starting lineup today in Syracuse, but he pinch hit. Maybe they’re bringing him in to start the KC series, or making sure his neck pain doesn’t return?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
As if he didn't get enough time off already
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Not as useful when it's the second out
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Well it turned out to be useful after all
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Now we need the shutdown inning
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Would have been nice if VW could have extended that a few more pitches
to give Dusty the extra time to rest.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Sigh, another walk
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Better not be Tallet
He is the king of allowing inherited runners to score.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
That's one inherited runner
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Snakeface struck him out on Tuesday
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
That's two inherited runners
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I don't care if it's his fault
They always score
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And that's all three inherited runners
to complete the trifecta
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
So, 12 up 12 down?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Well on our way
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Playing with a sense of urgency
“Aw crap, we’d better hurry up and lose so we can make our flight!”
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Is it wrong for me to wish an injury on Stewart so I don't have to watch him play?
I mean he gets injured every season anyway….
Once Lind is up we won't have to see him so much
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
The only reason I can think of
is to make sure his sore neck isn’t going to flare up again. Of course, since he was only available to pinch hit today, maybe it did.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I remember Bill James saying how hard it was to cheer for his team when they started things that he didn't believe in...
Stewart over Johnson, Eck over Mac, dumping Thomas so we can get another middle infielder into the lineup…..it is hare for me to like this group.
If Thigpen had started as the backup
I would have interpreted it as them giving up on him ever being a starter, because there’s no way he was close enough, and there’s no way he was going to get there playing part-time.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
For me using Barajas is showing they aren't interested in winning...
He’s a lousy hitter who had one good season…if Thigpen got his playing time I’d be happy.
He's not supposed to be playing much
He’s a backup catcher. He’s supposed to play in less than a third of the games, and in some of those he’s going to get pulled for Zaun.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I assume they wanted Tallet to work long relief
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
x doesn't get the job done
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Hill didn't look like he went to the plate looking to have a good at-bat
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
with that first swing
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And in the end
he didn’t
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
They say they like the new batting coach.....
but he sure doesn’t have them in a good mind set with runners on base….
If only he could hit for them
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Of course, none of this would have been an issue
if Dusty hadn’t used up all his strikes in the first two innings.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
If I never see Inglett play the outfield again
it will be too soon
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
yeah....I've been thinking if they can't have lind up isn't there another outfielder in the system somewhere??
Coats?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I don't know
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
As opposed to Overbay?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Barajas pinch hitting for Stairs?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
No surprise the Beej is in
He hasn’t pitched in ages, and they can’t let his arm rot.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I don't think Gibbons is the only manager
who imagines splits where there are none. For example, switch hitters hitting right-handed against Tallet when he’s actually better against righties.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
In the last 7 games we have scored 1 run after the 6th
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Now that Rs are ISP it's flail-time

Johnny Mac pinch running... stealing?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Easily on a curve in the dirt
taking the double play off
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Scoot strikes out on the full count
and now x is our only hope
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Hugo, if you need a title for tomorrow's game, may I recommend:
Today Withered Hope saw the very Sad Sack and she tried not to meet his eyes
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Had connection troubles at the end.....
but it was sad again…..Can’t believe they got swept by the Rays. Can you get swept by a lousy team and still consider yourself a contender? Gotta love the last two batters…with the tieing run on second…were middle infielders and course no thought of pinch hitting for them.
With Diaz? Or a pitcher?
