I've Been Waiting for You to Come Back Since You Left Minneapolis - Game 43, Jays at Twins
Toronto Blue Jays at Minnesota Twins, May 15, 2008 1:10 PM EDT
Anyway, the Jays play a getaway game this afternoon before heading to Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia to play their first interleague series of the year. Dustin McGowan, who was lights out two starts ago and bombed out last start, pitches against Glen Perkins, who's only made 1 start this season. Perkins is a lefty, and they've given the Jays fits this season, but hopefully they can snap out of it today. I won't be able to watch the game, as I'll be at work. Let's go Jays!!

This game is on Sportsnet, right?
Because mlb.tv has the Twins radio coverage on top of a slideshow right now.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Oh, it's the scoreboard feed
like they do for the Jays games that aren’t televised, except that this game is televised and I’m paying for it.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
The game is not on Sportsnet
I just checked and I couldn’t find it on any of the normal Jays channels. This might be one of the games that Rogers puts on their specialty channel to try to get people to order it.
Okay, I'm going with Jerry and Alan for this one
the video is out of sync with the radio they’re playing on top of it.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
McGowan at 82 pitches through 4
If he can go 5, I guess you can bring in Tallet to eat a few innings, but it’s going to be the toughest call to the bullpen ever.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
walks plus foul balls
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Tallet is warming up
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Didn't he pitch last night?
How many innings can Tallet pitch today? I guess we only need 2 if BJ can go today.
He got one out
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
There goes the no-hitter
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Now apparently Tallet has sat down
McGowan is facing Morneau; Frasor is still warming up.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
McGowan gives up the tying run
but the second runner cut down at the plate.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Mench takes a 9 pitch at bat for a strikeout
then Stew and Overbay make two outs on three pitches combined.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
They're talking about talented players not hustling
and guys like Scutaro (who singled) always hustling. Think they mean Rios?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Once again, the hit-and-run fails
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Uh oh... Benitez is warming up
now that Tallet is in. Meanwhile, Tallet gives up a single to a lefty.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And a bloop single to Morneau
but Kubel is thrown out at the plate after running through the stop sign.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And another
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
To bring up Purcey?
I’m not even sure. I’d figure we’d send down Velandia and bring up Lopez after Purcey’s start.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Who's Lopez?
I don’t see him on the 40-man roster
Why isn't Stairs pinch hitting vs. the righty?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I mean, it would put him in left
but it’s not like that’s a catastrophe
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Well, it's not like there was a runner in scoring position
and you can’t really bank on a solo homer.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
We do not need an extra inning game the night before a Purcey start
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Stew to second on the error
called an infield single. Overbay and Barajas will have the RBI chances, barring pinch hitting.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Lefty in to face Overbay
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Cy is warming up
for the Nth straight game
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Are there any studies
or information on the effect of a pitcher simply warming up on performance. Like is there an equivalence between warming up and throwing X number of pitches during the game in terms of its effect on pitcher stress?
I have no idea
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I somehow doubt that the state of the science of sabermetrics has advanced that far
but I think it would be interesting
Barajas grounds out on the first pitch
when they don’t make a pitching change.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Benitez back out for the 9th
with righties due up.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Benitez gets a 4th out
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Joe Mauer pinch hits for the righty Everett
and Gibbons goes to the lefty Cy. 4 lefties in the next 5 hitters, so maybe he’ll face all 5.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Cy gets Mauer to ground out on an 0-2 pitch
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Rolen makes a diving catch for the third out
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And Stairs to pinch hit against him
subbing for Scutaro
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And the gameday audio stream cuts out
I guess someone assumed the game would end after 9 innings.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Only the Fan's feed
the Minnesota station is still up
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I missed that part of the game
if he pitched
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I don't know how many more innings we have in the bullpen.....
Was just a few days ago we didn’t have enough work for the relievers
Now would be a good time for Rios to break out of his slump
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Uh oh... Kubel singles to left
and a pinch runner is in with Morneau batting
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Carlson strikes out Morneau
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Camp in to face Cuddyer
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
After Camp it's Downs and BJ
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Rolen with the leadoff double
Let’s get him home!
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Mench screws up the bunt
Rolen can’t get to third
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
when you only need one run
you’re more likely to score him from third with 1 out than second with none, IIRC.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Mench grounded to the pitcher
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
They're putting Overbay on
to pitch to Barajas
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Zaun to pinch hit
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Velandia hits righties better than lefties
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
But Inglett probably hits righties better than Velandia hits righties
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Wilk grounds out on the 2-0
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Yeah, no drama, please.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
The Twins' play by play guy keeps making mistakes
and Morris keeps having to correct him.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
That's one out
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
JotD
Inglett (.311), BJ (.209), Rolen (.183), Benitez (.169), Carlson (.160), and Frasor (.145)
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
McGowan was .04
He didn’t go deep enough into the game to get those high leverage innings, and he gave back a lead.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
looked like a quality game
too bad I had to work. nice job, Jays!
