Brad Wilkerson.....

Everyone seems to think that the Jays are going to sign Brad Wilkerson....does this complete our set of players that were good several years ago? If this was 2001 we'd have one heck of a offensive team.

Wilkerson last hit above .250 in 2004, with 32 home runs and 106 walks....that was the last year that he was a good major league player. Now at 31 we sign him. Last year he hit .234 with a .319 OBA. Now I'll admit Lind had 19 poor at bats...but it was only 19 at bats...is there any reasonable reason to think that Wilkerson is a better player now than Lind.

Wilkerson will be a good match with Stewart who's last good season was also 2004, add in Rolen who's had one good season since 2004. Stairs had a good season last year but last time he had two good ones in a row was 2004/2005. Barajas' one good season was 2005 and good is a relative term .306 on base...best he's ever had, except last year, but he only had 122 at bats last year.

I don't know what's in JP's mind but the Jays are becoming a hard team to cheer for...I like what they have done with the pitching staff....developed good young pitchers and allowed them to thrive. But on the offensive side....they seem to be grabbing up any one that was good years ago and hoping they can turn back the clock and become 27 again.

Having one or two players that you hope can turn back time is ok if you have someone that can replace them if things done work out. But asking several to is a recipe for not contending.

Hi I am new to this blog. I am not a Rays, Orioles, Red Sox, or Yankees fan…..but I am a Giants fan (my team sucks….so I gotta follow somebody!) who is a Blue Jays admirer.

I can understand your frustration with a GM who signs players who are 10 years past their prime because well….uh….that is what my team’s GM has done for years!

However, the difference between the Giants and the Blue Jays is that the Jays have, IMHO, one of the best pitching staffs in the AL this year, if not the best. This team needs to add offense and JP has gotta do something. I agree that it would be wiser to give Lind more of a chance, but I guess JP does not see it that way.

Considering how quickly he cut bait with Thomas, sending Lind to the minors wasn't surprising

If he could have benched Thomas until he started to heat up he would have. With Lind at least he could be sent to the minors and not released outright.

welcome!

the Giants are indeed terrible, but at least watching Lincecum every week is great. And some of the Giants’ younger players look pretty decent.

Thank you for the welcome!

Yeah, I am quite thankful that Sabean did not trade Tim the Enchanter for Alex Rios (no offense to the Blue Jays!).

I am the kind of baseball fan who enjoys watching a good pitcher pitch; it is one of the reasons I like the Blue Jays. Roy Halladay is one of the best pitchers to watch because he really knows how to pitch. A part of me hopes that Matt Cain learns to pitch like Halladay does. That way the kid wouldn’t have 12 pitches by the 6th inning.

It is true

Doc is a pleasure to watch. Jays fans were mixed, actually, but I was salivating at the thought of getting Lincecum for Rios, though our offense would truly be pathetic without Rios this season, it would’ve been a steal in the long run, I think.

We also picked up Kevin Mench for cash.

I like the prospect of putting Wilkerson at first after pinch running for Overbay a lot more than putting Barajas there. Since we would probably be using Velandia to pinch run, we could slot him at short and replace Scutaro in the batting order with Wilkerson.
