Does Gibby have to go?
I'm thinking so.....the team isn't performing at all. I think Gibby has done amazingly well with the pitching staff and I thought that was his weakness last year. I don't know what happened during the off season but he must have studied how to run a pitching staff because he's been almost a totally different manager, as far as pitchers go. But...the team ain't playing and it's his job to get them to play.
I think the hitting coach has to go too....it might not be fair but 'hitting' is in the man's job title and they ain't hitting. If sales manager is your job title and there are no sales, your fault or no, you'd be fired.
I also think it's time to release Wilkerson, he's slugging well under .400 and he's a corner outfielder. You can't have that. I think that if Stewart hadn't been injured he'd have to be released too. Corner outfielders have to slug over .400....unless they can get on base at a .400 clip. We don't owe these two much money, let's cut and run. It might tell the players that they have to hit like a major leaguer to keep a major league roster spot.
Rios also isn't slugging at all (.371). There are only 4 outfielder in the AL slugging worse with 200 or more at bats. But since we owe the boy a few bucks releasing him isn't posible. But maybe it is time to take him out behind the wood shed, at least . Call him out in the papers and say this is unacceptable.
It is almost the half way point of the season and our top home run hitter has 8. We might not have a 20 home run season out of any player. Wells is our leading RBI guy with 28!! We might not get 70 RBI's out of anyone this year. Josh Hamilton has 74 RBI's already.

Wilkerson is still OPSing 900 in June
although in the last week he’s down from that. Despite his poor numbers, he still drove in 12 runs in May. This may be why Lind isn’t up. If Wilk was really struggling then you could replace him with Lind, but if he’s not doing so bad lately then Lind is taking playing time from Stairs, or platooning with Rios. Mench is the one who really has to go. He was brought in to hit lefties and he’s no better vs. them than against righties, and not great vs. either.
Anyways, when you look at it, our run scoring wasn’t any better in May than it was in April. Our pitching was almost a run per game better. Our June pitching is a run and a half per game worse than it was in May.

After slagging Adam Dunn on the call-in show
for “not liking baseball that much” (who cares as long as he’s good at it?) I have a feeling JP is on more of a hot seat than Gibby, and rightly so.

Just saw the story...
I would have guessed several hundred names before I would have come up with Cito. I was never his biggest fan….but then things really can’t get worse…...can they?
Cito’s strength always seemed to be that he got the most that you could hope for out of the players he liked. The ones he didn’t like, didn’t play. I hated that he had Devon White lead off when he had several better choices…but by telling Devon that he was a good player and important to the team he got better offense from him than anyone could have expected….still not at the level of a good lead off man but is it more important to have the best player in each spot or is it better to get the best out of each player?
I’d like to think he’ll find a way to get more power out of our underperformers.
Denbo had to go….not sure that Tenace will do better but have to try someone else.
Pevey….well he seemed to be doing better of late but he sent a lot of players to get thrown out at the plate. JP talked about how he was learning the job but third base coach is not a position I’d want to have someone learning on the job.
Whitt….well other than shake players’ hands that get to first base and remind them that second base is a hard left after they get to first, I’m not sure what a first base coach’s job is. I’m sure Cito would be more comfortable with his own man there.
All in all…..Gibby had to be fired…..I’m not thrilled with Cito as the one to take over but who knows. And, yes, JP should have been fired too. Or first.

First base coach has the stopwatch
for timing the pitcher’s delivery.
