AJ Burnett

Burnett is probably not coming back at the end of the year. He has a huge contract that does not match his mediocre play. He is only 5-5 this year, and has suffered from mediocrity for most of his career just like the Jays of late. He is slowly becoming the Bryan McCabe of the Blue Jays. Will the Blue Jays shop him at the trade deadline for a hitter? If yes who will they get in return?

Gotta hope so....

Parrish looks like he could become the 5th starter.

I think trading A.J. is a good idea

particularly to a team that wants to extend his deal, since the Jays would get more in that type of situation. If LA had a window to buy out the opt-out clause and buy out his deal, would Ethier and Hu be a decent return for A.J.? It would certainly save the Jays a lot of money. I know Purcey hasn’t impressed in his 2 big league starts, but at some point the Jays will have to do what they did with McGowan and just let it ride with him for a little while to see what they have. If not, Parrish would probably be a capable stopgap, and there are some other options as well.

agreed

ethier would be a great lefty bat for the jays and could bat anywhere in the lineup, also purcey could be potentially be solid starter for the jays in the future. he is a also a lefty and right now all of the starters are righty, but im not complaining about starting pitching right now

Peter Gammons was tabbing the Cubs as a possible destination

during Sunday Night Baseball last night. What do they have that we would like? Obviously it makes a difference if we’re contending vs. cutting salary, so mark your ideas accordingly.

Sean Marshall and Matt Murton, maybe?

Is that reasonable, assuming the Cubbies get to resign A.J.?

could happen

but felix pie coming to toronto could be interesting, hes in the minors right now i think and has become expendable with the emergence of fukudome and reed johnson

I was thinking Pie

but I’m not sure he fits with Toronto – it’s unclear he’ll hit enough to play a corner, and the Jays are stocked in CF with Wells and Rios as a good alternate option.

We got enough corner outfielders that can't hit well enough to play a corner spot....

A left fielder with power or DH type with power would be my first choice. It’s a tough spot for JP…this season seems to be slipping away…so a couple of really good prospects might work. We are going to need a SS in a season or so…Stairs makes a good 4th outfielder but it doesn’t look like he’s going to repeat last season and next year he’ll be a little bit older. Would be nice to find a DH that could give us 25+ home runs.

As a Cubs fan

I’d say your best bet would be go for Murton and Gallagher or Marshall. Murton is Mr. Expendible in the lineup and is being wasted in the minors right now. Another name to throw out there to you guys is Micah Haufpaire. He’d make a decent DH and can play a serviceable left field and some first if forced to. As for Pie, I’m beginning to think you might have a better shot now than you would have in the past. I’m just not sure about taking A.J. Would y’all be interested in Jason Marquis too? I’m sure he could be had for not too much wrangling. Good luck this weekend—I think you guys will need it.

Time is an illusion--lunch time doubly so.

the way we've been playing

we’ll definitely need it

Texas seems like a possible partner

because they have the bats, need better pitching, and are generally willing to spend money. The catch is that most of their good hitting outfielders are under control for a long time, which may make them reluctant to deal them away for Burnett, and the one who is on a one year deal, Milton Bradley, is leading the team in OPS.
