Guess I had Radhames Liz' name backwards yesterday....whoops....is better this way. Neither pitcher has done well of late, though we do have a habit of turning every pitcher we see into Bob Gibson, but we hit well yesterday. Hoping Litsch turns it around soon, we need him.

Slightly different batting order today, Eck is in playing short and batting 9th. I'd rather him batting second over Scoot. He is fun to watch, taking the little run up to throw to first. I really don't think his defense is any worse than Scoot's at short. Stairs, finally has been removed from the cleanup spot. Overbay is in, maybe he can add to his league lead in grounding into double plays. I'd like Cito to move Lind down in the lineup but can't have everything and as long as he keeps Wilk out I'm happy. The unfortunate problem for our team is that somebody has to hit at the top of the order, if they all could hit in the 7 thru 9 spots life would be good.

Marcum comes off the DL to pitch tomorrow night. Can put your guess for who goes down in the comments.

I get to watch today's game so join me in the game thread tonight. Let the battle for last begin.

Do you know

what the problem is with Hill? And what’s the official word on McGowan? Sorry, I should know these things but I haven’t been watching much lately

Also

A friend of mine (regular on Let’s Go Tribe, Indians SB Nation blog) has long expressed fascination with the Jays’ recent inability to keep their pitchers healthy. Discounting Doc’s freak DL-trips (batted ball to the leg, appendicitis), we have Ryan and League from last year, now McGowan, Marcum, Janssen, and the rest of the RH relief crew. But not only do they get hurt, but the injuries seem to come out of nowhere, with no indication of problems from the front office. It sometimes (e.g. BJ last year) even seems like the organization actively tries to conceal injuries, and then the guy goes down for an extended period.

Even with the position players, you had the Wells thing last year where there was clearly a problem with his shoulder and they wouldn’t shut him down, and now Hill who has been out for weeks from what appeared to be a simple concussion.

What do you think about this? Is it just bad luck or do you think there is a systemic thing going on?

Another double for Rios

Though I think Jones could/should have had it

We can hope

but I need a couple more games worth of evidence before I get back on the wagon

With a good throw

he would have been DOA

Don't know

The best I can think of is that Rios has a green light to go when he wants, so there wouldn’t have been a steal sign on for Overbay to anticipate. And then he wasn’t paying attention and couldn’t get going in time to move up.

Doesn’t excuse Overbay’s play, but it may be an explanation

More funny than fun if you ask me

and not funny in a good way

No

but part of that is Overbay at first. He does put a ton of throws in the dirt, and he can’t make the throw from the hole to his right. He’s fine if he can get in front of the grounder (and he has good instincts which make up for his arm somewhat), but moving to his right or having to hurry the throw he doesn’t get much on the ball.

Ya, I buy that

Scoot has a better arm, but I saw some fielding metrics a while ago that showed Scrappy was one of the tops in the league in reaching balls.

Case in point

infield single for Adam Jones on a ball hit to Eck’s right. Not saying every SS in the league would have made that play, but lots would have.
