Game Thread for Game 103, Mariners at Jays
Should be a fun series with two underachieving teams. Parrish makes his fourth start for us, his first two were quality starts, his last one....not so much. The story on MLB.com was that he is pitching to keep his job. And I'd imagine he is. Can't be any worse than his last start. Tomorrow we get to see David Purcey, he's been great in AAA, we need him to to be good here.
Bastista on the other hand was pulled from the starting rotation to pitch out of the pen, though he's made two starts this month and has pitched 2 complete innings in each. His ERA for July is 10.13. Normally the Jays are able to turn crappy starters into great ones but they scored 21 runs in three games against lousy Oriole starters. Gotta hope it continues.
Another different order for the Jay's tonight. Wilk starting in right and batting 9th....if he is going to be in the lineup, 9th is the best spot for him. I hate having Lind so deep in the other, he had been moving up. Stairs batting 6th is hitting about .115 this month with half of his at bats ending in strike outs. Barajas batting 5th hasn't been much better.
But Lyle has been hot and Rios seems to have found the power stroke again. Should be a fun time in the thread tonight. Join us in the thread though I'll likely be in and out as we's building a fence with our good neighbors.

A guy from the colorado page came over here and suggested it...
when I wasn’t thrilled with the idea he seemed a little put out…..hate to tell him, I don’t make the deals for the team

It's intriguing at first glance
though how would we going to replace Doc (and AJ, since he is going to be either traded or walk after the season) within Holliday’s window of maximum effectiveness? He is in his age 28 season, so we can give him 4-5 years.
Marcum and McGowan are a good start (though I’m less sold on DMC than others are) but Litsch’s potential seems to me to max out at a very good back-of-the-rotation guy. We would need to replace AJ and Doc from outside the organization in order to compete with Holliday on the squad. With our luck with free agents, I don’t see us signing two top pitchers in the span of a couple years.
Plus, there’s the issue of the Colorado boost in Holliday’s numbers. This season, his home OPS is 1.129 and .860 away. That .860 would be great on the Jays, but does it justify trading Doc straight up?

And yes
I realize that this is not actually a legitimate rumour and that I am not actually running the Jays (though hopefully someday I will be), but those are my thoughts as if it was a serious proposal

thing is Holliday is only signed thru this year....so we'd get one year of him, they get two of Doc....

then I wouldn't want to do the deal at all
unless we could get some guarantee that we could resign him or something. This team is not nearly good enough for rent-a-players

Ya
outfield isn’t really our major concern, though with this team offense in general is a concern. Something about beggars and choosers comes to mind

is he going to get that with his home/away splits as huge as they are?
Is an .860 OPS worth 20mil a year?

On the other hand
if Doc isn’t going to resign after his contract, then we should trade him and get back some good value. Holliday is certainly that (though outside of Coors, his value is likely diminished), but we might be better off getting a package of prospects

He has been playing way over his head lately
so it could be more of a regression to the mean thing. Maybe he’s not actually as bad as he’s been playing lately, but he’s also not as good as he was playing before

yeah, and I think putting him at the top of the other is putting some pressure on him

Maybe
but with this team they have to go with the hot hand whenever it appears.

well, at least someone in the order is actually batting where they should be
Though Wilk really should be batting bench. Or in Japan

don't encourage him
if Gibby was still managing, that would have earned Wilk another week’s worth of starts

I'm studying for the US medical board exam
so I’m often at school in the evenings. I hope you can keep it going for another month at least, then I’ll be back
