Game Thread for Game 121, Game is Back On....

Toronto Blue Jays at Detroit Tigers, Aug 13, 2008 7:05 PM EDT

We have David Purcey (1-3, 7.40) going up against Kenny Rogers (8-9, 4.92). Purcey was told that he'll be in the rotation the rotation the rest of the season, no matter what. So, am guessing this will be his last start for us tonight. Kidding. Purcey had his best start of the season in his last start against the Indians. He went six innings, gave up 3 runs and struck out 8. Rogers has had 3 losses in a row and has given up 15 earned runs in the 16 innings in those starts. Though I can't remember a lefty we've hit this season.

Eck is in at second, batting second, guess we'll see some bunts today. Vernon's DHing putting Rios back in center with Mench in right.

Other news, Mike Lowell was put on the DL for the Sox, pitcher David Pauley was recalled to fill his spot. The Rays announced Carl Crawford will be gone for the season. And Derek Jeter missed today's game for the Yankees after fouling a pitch off his foot yesterday. He'll likely play Friday. Twins beat the Yankees today. Any day with a Yankee loss is a good day.

Join me in the thread tonight.

btw we still in playoff hunt

we play so many games vs sox and yanks…we could steal wild card with a 30-12 record rest of way
yes that would be insane record but rockies did it

very optimistic

but with our pitching
we just need three hot hitters

I thought we were still in the hunt when we won those four from Oakland.....

and the Red Sox, Yankees and Rays are getting hit by injuries….but the series with the Indians cured me of that. I just want to finish ahead of the Yankees now

if wells or rios would go on tear

we could prob win 26 or 27
if both go on tear and lind maintains, 30 wins is doable

id say chances are 2%

leadoff man on

i love when opposing team’s announcers mention with incredulity how jays are getting so many leafodd men on
they dont realize this year jays always get leadoff men on
just dont bring them around

Mench

purportedly a “lefty masher” (and has been in the past, lifetime OPS v LHP>.900) has put up an unispiring .716 OPS this season vs lefties. Better than his .563 vs RHP this year, but still.

sorry I missed it

ok

I get the feeling that no matter how much I study, there will always be more that I could have done, but I think I’m doing all right.

Lind has been surprisingly good against lefties

Let’s hope opposing managers don’t notice when they go to the bullpen.

I hope they call it entirely

Get Purcey that CG. Plus the back of the pen has worked a few days straight.

his era does suck though

though a bit misleading since 4.50 translates to 3 runs per 6 innings, and with bullpen holding teams to nothing…3 runs is enough to win

call from an old friend

is Downs okay?

that's what I heard

but still, just for effectiveness sake, not a good idea to go do back-to-back-to-back. it didn’t work out well for Janssen for example
