Game Thread for Game 121, Game is Back On....
Toronto Blue Jays at Detroit Tigers, Aug 13, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
We have David Purcey (1-3, 7.40) going up against Kenny Rogers (8-9, 4.92). Purcey was told that he'll be in the rotation the rotation the rest of the season, no matter what. So, am guessing this will be his last start for us tonight. Kidding. Purcey had his best start of the season in his last start against the Indians. He went six innings, gave up 3 runs and struck out 8. Rogers has had 3 losses in a row and has given up 15 earned runs in the 16 innings in those starts. Though I can't remember a lefty we've hit this season.
Eck is in at second, batting second, guess we'll see some bunts today. Vernon's DHing putting Rios back in center with Mench in right.
Other news, Mike Lowell was put on the DL for the Sox, pitcher David Pauley was recalled to fill his spot. The Rays announced Carl Crawford will be gone for the season. And Derek Jeter missed today's game for the Yankees after fouling a pitch off his foot yesterday. He'll likely play Friday. Twins beat the Yankees today. Any day with a Yankee loss is a good day.
Join me in the thread tonight.

wily veteran junkballer rogers
vs, fastball hitting buffoons rios and wells
lets see if cito coached them
btw we still in playoff hunt
we play so many games vs sox and yanks…we could steal wild card with a 30-12 record rest of way
yes that would be insane record but rockies did it
very optimistic
but with our pitching
we just need three hot hitters
I thought we were still in the hunt when we won those four from Oakland.....
and the Red Sox, Yankees and Rays are getting hit by injuries….but the series with the Indians cured me of that. I just want to finish ahead of the Yankees now
if wells or rios would go on tear
we could prob win 26 or 27
if both go on tear and lind maintains, 30 wins is doable
id say chances are 2%
i gotta go for bit soon too
but ill try to stay
mag's hair
intimidating? or sideshow bob-ish?
ump is really squeezing both pitchers
not calling inside strike
hilarious
eck tried vet move of blocking second with his foot
lucky he didnt get hurt
who consumes more calories per day?
michael phelps or cabrera?
leadoff man on
i love when opposing team’s announcers mention with incredulity how jays are getting so many leafodd men on
they dont realize this year jays always get leadoff men on
just dont bring them around
at his point in slump
lyle should be bunting
mench should clobber rogers
predict nice double
Mench
purportedly a “lefty masher” (and has been in the past, lifetime OPS v LHP>.900) has put up an unispiring .716 OPS this season vs lefties. Better than his .563 vs RHP this year, but still.
should have been here last night suck, we had a full room.....
been just you and me for so long…..and often just me….
sorry I missed it
hopefully everyone will stick around for a while and we can get some good ones when I can come back more regularly. Only two more weeks!
ok
I get the feeling that no matter how much I study, there will always be more that I could have done, but I think I’m doing all right.
i stand corrected
mench takes defensive swing for pop fly
i saw some yanks game too
a-rod cannot hit in the clutch…he has some serious mental issues
i played basketball right next to him shooting hoops
last month when madonna thing started
we were in New York last year when he was looking for his 500 home run....but missed it....
went to a play the night he got it.
he has decent touch from 15 feet
and so does she
leadoff man on
quelle surprise
and now the bunt
this is how we won a's games too
lousy opposition fielding
alright vernon keep listening to cito
and we may be starting something
now keep the pedal to the metal
and close this one out
Better than shutout
at least historically speaking.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
At least we don't have to feel too bad about him getting pulled when his pitch count gets too high
or if he lost it at 120 pitches when he should have been out.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Lind has been surprisingly good against lefties
Let’s hope opposing managers don’t notice when they go to the bullpen.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
It wasn't even a hard toss in that got him
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Now especially bad
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
According to Campbell, Alex Rios is the beginning of the "power section" of the lineup
he could have fooled me.
By our standards
8 is a lot
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
At least if they call it we win
because we didn’t take the lead this half inning.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Are there puddles?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
or slides down the mound
Of course the first time that happens it’s already too late.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Or a leg
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I hope they call it entirely
Get Purcey that CG. Plus the back of the pen has worked a few days straight.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
hey hey just got in
how we doin?

can't beat that
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
he did get two strikes called that were off the inside of the plate....
but good pitching to put it in the same spot
just got back
i missed most of purcey…wow! 2 hitter??!!! how he do it?
go purcey!!!

seriously how many decent to good starters have jays thrown out there this year?
it is amazing..so much trade bait!
depends on AJ.....I wouldn't trade anyone if AJ walks....
McGowan isn’t a sure thing to come back….they might be in the market for one still
what percent chance you give that aj stays?
i would say 30% he renegotiates 4 years 60 mill
70 % he walks
really? I'd say about 0 if he keeps pitching the way he has......but if he has some bad starts.....
really I think 95% chance he’s gone…..
the 5% is just cause I'm not sure if JP knows something....I would have thought he have found trade
unless he knows something
I think it's 25% he returns

does aj hate toronto?
im in nyc so i dont know
he hasn't said he does, but he's in a good spot to get a Zito type contract...
in two years….who knows
no he likes it, I think
where in NYC? I grew up in Brooklyn

his era does suck though
though a bit misleading since 4.50 translates to 3 runs per 6 innings, and with bullpen holding teams to nothing…3 runs is enough to win
call from an old friend
is Downs okay?

w00t
it wasn’t pretty but League got it done

Cito shouldn't have gone back to the well
with Downs

right
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
that's what I heard
but still, just for effectiveness sake, not a good idea to go do back-to-back-to-back. it didn’t work out well for Janssen for example

it's not
me getting used to it I’m worried about, you know?

well, I better go eat some dinner, I'm starved.
if you handle the recap, rince, I’ll post tomorrow morning. night all!
