Humor Me Before I Have to Go: Game Thread, Jays at BoSox
Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox, Aug 16, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
After being rained out yesterday, the series is down to a 2-gamer. Roy Halladay and Paul Byrd (who seems to pitch well against the Jays) will face off. Unfortunately, I likely won't be able to watch much of the game, as we're having guests over for a paella dinner. Let's go Jays!

As much as I'd like to hope we can catch up, I can't see it happening with Scoot at 3B and Wilk anywhere in the lineup
Or Rios hitting third
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Snider's making a case to break camp with the team next year
but is he enough of a big bat that the team can move Lind to DH and not add a bat from outside the organization?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
That's a Monster shot
not a monster shot, if you know what I mean.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Probably warning track power in TO
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
If Boston didn't want to give up those kinds of hits
they should have built a different stadium.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Disappointing on a 3-1 count
but better than a double play.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
btw i heard youk on an interview last week
the man has some thick accent or some wad of tobacco—completely unintelligible
how deep is sox lineup?
no rest for the pitcher…what u think doc’s chances are today?
Isn't as deep as it used to be....no Lowell....Varitek isn't hitting....
doc didn’t look sharp the first inning…..
who the heck is jed lowrie
and why is he hitting 310!
Lugo?
Yeah, an easy choice given his recent stats, even if he wasn’t hurt. I doubt we want him for the same reason even if they would trade him to us, but they may salary dump him next year.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Another '05 first rounder
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
i am watching sox feed
they stink too
here comes the rain
joe 5 for 6 against byrd now
that would be an 833 ave
Don't get picked off this time
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
good conservative running by joe here
not to get doubled off
If you see where Varitek is setting up
it looks like Byrd is missing by a mile.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
back to classic argument on small ball
this last inning—-lead off guy on—-shouldnt scoot have bunted
yes, i know he is hitting byrd well…but with doc pitching shouldnt we be playing for one run at a time no matter how early in the game
Only if Rios is good with RISP
as it happens he’s terrible.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Of course if there's a good chance of beating it out for an infield single
then I’m all for it.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
jacoby is crazy fast
how the heck did he not get doubled played there!!
good dp to end the inning
classic jays fielding and doc pitching
And without Rolen at third, even.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
red sox commercial for a dating show called sox appeal
whereby a goofball goes on three dates with three hotties …and takes them to sox games
Why else would you show a dating reality show on a sports channel?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
lind hits close to pesky pole
and caught
man fenway is a wacked park
remy making fun of sox appeal
‘hi i’m a playa", not a good opening line
His IF/F is 8.2% with us
48% ground ball rate though.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
theo in booth
joe college
can we trade jp for him?
Ortiz pops out to left this time
this whole shift thing is looking silly so far.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
scoot makes great catch
off youk
theo commenting ‘thats three ball we’ve smoked tonight’
As the GM
he’s allowed to be a homer.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And he bails after the 1-2-3 inning
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
now i have to bail in 10 minutes
to go to concert
embarassed to see who
scoot scoots down line
and francona to argue
the hardest working man working in spandex
neil diamond
i am still embarassed
especially since i wanted to see tonight game badly
Their hits a bunch of bloops
and an opposite field grounder against the shift.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
ump respecting doc
giving him benefit of doubt
Also the lefty hitter strike zone has extra space on the outside
although that may be an artifact of sidearming lefty specialists.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
this game is classic 70's 80's pitcher duel
and i gonna miss it
inlgett blew that one
should have had that one
Rushed the throw to first
Maybe he didn’t realize how much time he had
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
smart play by bay
manny would not have bothered
He's winning the pitch count battle too
52-74
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
He's on pace
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
even if he was on a 100 pitch limit
and I don’t think he is.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
More humpback liners
that’s our third tonight?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Funny if the exact same guy caught it
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
You shouldn't do that
Who knows what a bear might do to them?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
byrd seems to be touching his cap and rubbing ball a lot
i think key to his success lately may be the spitter
Notice how much gunk is on Cliff Lee's hat?
Is that rosin? Or does he not wash his hands ever?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Well I'll take the run
but all 3 outs were on the first pitch. To be fair, Wilk gave it a ride.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Oh wait, that was Overbay
Forgot Barajas was after Lind.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
First pitch outs to the warning track not so bad
first pitch popups and grounders are made of suck and fail.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Why start the clock early?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
September callups are the 40 man roster, right?
So if they’re not on the 40, you have to add them, which starts the clock.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Ortiz goes to left for the third time
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Doc still ahead 66-80 in pitches
Right on pace for a 100 pitch complete game.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Johnny Mac hasn't pulled one tonight
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Straight up
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
78-88
Byrd is gaining ground with these quick innings.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
NESN has it as 80-90
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Insurance run would be sweet
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Through the drawn in infield
Just like Detroit, but the run scored this time.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
933 OPS vs left
794 vs. Right
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Only 53 PAs against lefties
vs. 133 against righties.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Oh wait, plus a HBP from each side
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Varitek should be a double play candidate
as an old, light-hitting catcher
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Zaun?
Hahahahaha
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Did they give Varitek multiple years?
I thought he was a free agent before this season.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Gameday says Doc is at 96
But another insurance run couldn’t hurt.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
They say League is warming
but I doubt he’s actually coming in unless there’s serious trouble
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Compared to all the times he left guys out there
it would be odd to see him pull Doc at 100 during a shutout with a week’s rest
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
We have an off day monday, right?
So even if BJ warms and doesn’t pitch we won’t have to go a game without him.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Was it recent?
Probably not. I usually skip the front page to go straight to the live scoreboard or the Jays team page.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Walk off called third strike.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
w00t!!!
Doc is a man among men. enjoy your trip Rince! If you don’t have time, I can recap the game first thing tomorrow morning.
