Game Thread for Game 153, Orioles and Jays

Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays, Sep 18, 2008 7:07 PM EDT

Yay, Thigpen is playing. Yeah I know he hasn't looked great this year but still out like to see him get some at bats. But I don't understand why he bats 8th and Moonraker bats 9th!!   Why? I know I shouldn't try to second guess Cito but that makes no sense to me.

I imagine it will be hard for him to get playing time

with Ryan Doumit there. How long before Doumit is a free agent?

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

by Torgen on Sep 18, 2008 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Doumit does seem to get hurt a lot though

and he also hits enough to play 1st base or outfield, so there’s some playing time, I would think. also, his defense behind the plate isn’t very good

But a catcher who hits well enough to be a first baseman

means you can get a first baseman who hits well enough to be a first baseman and have that much more offense.

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

by Torgen on Sep 18, 2008 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions

sure

I don’t mean stick him there permanently, just once in a while to give him a day off behind the plate, and since his bat is staying in the lineup, you can do it a little more often than usual catcher days off

"why you get paid the big bucks to be a closer, right here"

-Rod Black

I was under the impression that you got paid the big bucks to not load the bases in the ninth inning

Great play by Sir John A to let Beej off the hook

Does that mean the Beej gets the Batista

since minus that play he’s way down?

well he deserves some credit

for inducing a weak grounder, no?

A little too weak for comfort

really, that's terrible news

If that's true, then suddenly

our rotation of the future goes from bright with promise to a huge question mark. Both our prospective young aces (Marcum and McGowan) have possibly-very-serious injuries.

Sportscentre just reported

that Marcum’s injury may be “worse than originally thought,” though no details were provided. Was there any word on his situation during the game?

Also, JP apparently said that they are going to try to extend AJ. We’ll see if that ends up happening.

sounds like TJ to me

they won’t say, but Andrews is looking at the MRI results tomorrow for a second opinion

this is the cynic in me talking

why do I get the undeniable feeling that JP knew that something must have been wrong when he sent Marcum down for rehab, but refused to shut him down for at least some time to protect his arm, likely because he knew that he needed Marcum for the team to make a run if he was to keep his job.

funny

I was also blaming the demotion, but in a different way – I was speculating that whatever those AAA guys did with Marcum’s delivery threw off his mechanics and caused the injury

that too

I guess we won’t know until tomorrow, maybe it won’t be so bad. TJ would suck, of course, but at least pitchers have a good track record of recovery and he’d probably be back for opening day 2010.

maybe

it’s just that it seemed like he was hurt already before the demotion (I remember that post about his release point changing in the few starts just preceding the demotion). So I feel like this was case of JP not letting on what he actually knew and trying to cover things up.

well,

I’m out. Goodnight all, and maybe Bluebird Banter shouldn’t sponsor any more players!!!
