Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Does it Seem To Anyone Else

That the Jays have had an inordinate amount of serious arm injuries among their pitchers at the  major league level?  Accardo, Janssen, League, Janssen, McGowan, Ryan, Chacin, and now Marcum - all have had serious arm injuries that caused them to miss more than half of a season, and all in the past two seasons (Chacin's problems go back a bit further, but still).  This seems out of whack with what other teams have dealt with, but maybe not.  What do y'all think, and if so, what could be the cause?  Just bad luck?

It is starting to seem that way to me.....

I really think that with the number of young starters and relievers with have Cito should be given some hard and fast rules about pitch count and innings pitched for certain players. And some rules on how often and how many games in a row a reliever can throw. And he should be told ‘if you can’t follow these rules you are fired’. The team’s future depends on some of the good young arms we have.

Marcum, his first start back from the DL, we were told he had an absolute pitch limit and then he pitched well beyond the stated limit. For me, at times, I feel Cito ignores when pitchers seem to be tiring and that can’t be allowed. Pitchers end up injured when they continue to pitch after they are tired.

human arm

the human arm was not meant to throw 90+ miles per hour, it’s a common occurence for all major league teams.

well, yeah

my question was whether it is occuring more often to our pitchers than others. Just because major league pitching in general causes arm injuries, that doesn’t mean that one shouldn’t look at whether certain subsets or parameters as applied to major-league pitching could increase or decrease the frequency of those injuries.
