Night and Day: Game Thread, Jays at ChiSox, Part II
Toronto Blue Jays at Chicago White Sox, Sep 9, 2008 8:11 PM EDT
Unfortunately, I don't know what happened with the first game, since I'm flying for business this evening, but here's the game thread for the night portion of the non-doubleheader. The pitching matchup features pink, round, and efficient vs. the large lefty Clayton Richard for Chicago. Let's go Jays!

Rios caught in between on a grounder deep in the hole
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Despite scoring only one run
lots of hard hit balls that inning
Not a good start for Litsch
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Two on, none out
Dye probably not trying to bunt
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
things I never thought I would see
DeWayne Wise starting for a major league playoff contender
Double play broken up
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Walks them loaded
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Lind with the warning track power

Rolen with the strike out looking power
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Hopefully a more efficient inning from Jesse this time
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
how spent is the bullpen?
I didn’t see the game this afternoon, did AJ go deep?
7 innings
Downs and BJ with a nervous inning each
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Certainly a better start to this inning
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
A more efficient inning than the first
but Jesse isn’t setting himself up to go deep into this game.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
41 pitches through 2
but only around 10 of them came in the second, so if he avoids another inning like the first, he could do decently
15 in the second, actually
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Doc vs. Buehrle
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
hopefully won't need much pen then
although I guess it matters a little less now with expanded rosters
That ball just died when it hit the wall
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
19 pitches that inning, and he gave up the lead
so not only is he not likely to work deep, but we’re not likely to want him to.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Leading off with 1 pitch outs won't help
we’ve done it a few times already.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Wells lucky that Ramirez bobbles the popup
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Another one pitch out
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Lind at least saw a few pitches
but grounded out harmlessly to first
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Griffey gets a cheap bloop to left
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And a one out single scraped off the ground
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Litsch gets out of the jam with a soft liner
but another 18 pitches.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
One pitch into the inning and we haven't made an out?
It’s a miracle.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Scoot didn't do bad that first at-bat.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And Rolen did just fine there
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Leadoff walk for Mench
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
1st career homer vs. White Sox
Gee, maybe because he spent his career in the NL? Not a helpful stat.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And Johnny Mac follows up with a bloop
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
So much backspin it bounced right back to Ramirez
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
The power of the bunt single
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
He got it down the line
Gives the runner more time to advance
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Maybe he did
but it’s tough for the ump to see, so you have to sell it
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Whoever employs Mientkiewicz?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Rios sliding into 10 feet in front of the bag
and Scoot doesn’t even score on the pickle
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
That's two Rios baserunning blunders today
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
This game, even
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Wells picks him up
Oh wait, Rios could have been another run
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Rays ahead of the Red Sox.....
Jamie said the Yankees have been out of it for a long time……….but would he say we are out of it?
They're out of it because they have Ponson and Rasner in their rotation
We don’t have that problem.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
14 pitches... not 'Doc' efficient
but getting it done, no doubt about it.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
If we sweep the ChiSox we're tied with them
Which means we don’t care much about the central any more.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
IBB to Rolen
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Not a big fan of the IW when you are down 3 already.....wouldn't it be be better to get Rolen and start the next inning with Mac
Only 1 out
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
the fundamentally sound 5U-3
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Tabler just says 'if they shift like that you know they are throwing you inside'
and then the pitch is to the outside
11 pitches
I say shut him down now and use him on short rest for the Saturday doubleheader.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Well he's already talking about Doc starting on short rest
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
that's really short rest
only 2 days in between starts
Doc would be starting on Sunday against Boston
so that’s 3 days
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
oh
thought you meant starting during the double-header on Sat.
Do we really need to be doing this? Does Cito actually think we have a chance at the wild card?
If we sweep this series
then our chances at the wild card are pretty much exactly our performance against Boston. If we’re 0-3 in the series going into Sunday, then Doc probably doesn’t start, although that might be a Cy Young thing too.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
To screw the bullpen out of a save?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
A little more than halfway
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
The return of the Wolfe-man
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Hmm, he was warming up, and then he didn't come in.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
So a 9 pitch inning for Litsch?
I guess a good call sending him back out, then.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Wheeler and Papelbon have both blown saves in the Sox-Rays game
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Got a quick fly ball
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Is nice....
these win streaks bring people to the site…have a whole bunch of lurkers at the moment and will have the most visits to the site ever this month if the numbers stay close to the same.
The first one was more of a bloop
the second one much harder hit. Good thing there’s plenty of room for error.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Especially if any of those are against the red sox.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

If they did, I could go to more games.
I mean, at least 9 at SF alone.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
And no Hinske/Lamp/Towers awards.
