Why do they still let the Baseball Writers vote for the Hall of Fame? If they have agendas that differ from just voting for the those that deserve to be in the Hall then they shouldn't be allowed to vote.

aside from the obvious

in relation to that article, why did Rick Chandler put Cal Ripken in the same class as Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron?

This is nothing against Cal Ripken, but if only one player could ever be unanimously elected to the Hall, I can think of probably at least 10 players I’d choose before him. Bill James (pre-Alex Rodriguez) ranks him as the third best SS of all time (and behind Arky Vaughan, whose case was obviously another BBWAA Hall of Fame disaster in and of itself).

In no particular order off the top of my head:
Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ty Cobb, Mickey Mantle, Mike Schmidt, Lou Gehrig, Johnny Bench, Stan Musial, Eddie Collins

This is not even starting with pitchers or negro league players.

Seriously, I know I’m nitpicking here, but why Cal Ripken? Nothing against him, but he’s not inner-circle the way those other fellows are.
