World Series Game 2 Thread

After the very exciting news of the Jays picking up Sean Henn off waivers (yeah I know, during the off-season teams make lots of little moves that generally don't end up meaning much), the hired former major league second baseman Mike Mordecai to be their roving Minor League infield instructor. Alex Anthopoulos isn't wasting anytime making the changes he feels the organization needs.

Anyway the game....Pedro Martinez starts for the Phillies and everyone's favorite former Jay A.J. Burnett goes for the Yankees. I won't wish for A.J.'s arm to fall right off or anything like that but I will hope he has a bad night.

Doesn't exactly sound like it was musically relevant at the time

tiffany’s version was in the 80’s and tommy james was in the 60’s (i think?). The Attack of the Killer Clowns movie wasn’t released until 2004 or something, right?

I was at a jays game and he was with the A's I think

and he was playing catch in the outfield with one of the ball boys and he was trying to show the ball boy how to throw straight over top so it didn’t curve….

wow

ibanez is not exactly known for his baserunning or glovework, but good job scoring last inning (though at least in large part thanks to Damon’s arm) and nice catch there

burnett's gotten a lot better at holding on runners

didn’t he pick off ichiro twice in one game earlier this season, too?

last three seasons

2009: 23 successful steals, 12 caught stealing
2008: 22 …………………………… 9
2007: 31 ……………………………. 0

was good in the early 2000's

but Charles Johnson was marlins catcher back then, wasn’t he? i remember him being exceptionally good at throwing out runners. but maybe he was catcher before then?

"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"

by jessef on Oct 29, 2009 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions

for some reason mlb.com

does not have johnson’s SB/CS rate for 2001 and previous but in 2002 it was 37 steals and 25 CS (40%). AJ was 10 and 10 that year, so it can’t be solely due to Johnson . . . unless the other Marlins staffers were incredibly bad at holding guys on

norm spent way too much of his time thinking about baseball and not enough banging supermodels. Jeter won’t even watch games he doesn’t play in
