The Good Doctor
There's been lots of chatter on the world wide web recently about Roy Halladay being on the market this winter. I get the feeling from AA that he doesn't feel the team is going to be a competitor in 2010 and made comments that the team is still building (though not rebuilding). Added to this Doc's desire to play on a winner; is the writing on the wall?
If so, where do you think Doc ends up? Personally I don't see how AA can trade Doc within the AL East so to me that eliminates Boston and New York right away. Personally I'd like to see Roy dealt to the Angels (if he's not staying here)...will let him play in Toronto to get his homecoming welcome each season and play on a winner plus the Angels could potentially offer up a package with Joe Saunders and Brandon Wood and have a need for an ace because they are likely to lose John Lackey to free agency.
Where else is a good fit for Doc to be dealt?

Trade him to the Yankees or Red Sox so I can keep watching him play.
Well we tried the no offense huddle, why not give the no huddle offense a go?!!

Whatever team offers the best and most young talent
The Jays are not competing for the playoffs for at least 3 years if they deal Halladay. Might as well trade him to whomever offers the best players that gives us the best chance of competing then.

halladay trade
heres a deal id like to see AA explore in trading our “Good Doc”….. trade him to….
Texas Rangers – tex is desperate for SP, is a contender with young talented hitters ….needs veteran #1 starter to wi the division aka "Roy Halladay)!,,,tex has lots of prospects and would be a willing trade partner therefore i see max value if halladay can be traded to texas….
assuming texas will do the trade if halladay agrees to a 4 yeear contract extension….. lets say Halladay to TEXAS for…….. 2 of baseball 2009 top 100 prospects that texas has……, #‘s 6 on that list, Neftali Feliz Rp, 21 years old, 2009 texas stats 31ip, 39k’s, 1.74 era, .124 opp bat avg, power releiver better tha joba chamberlain……and #40 on that list, 22 yrs old, Derek Holland LHP, SP, 2009 texas stats 33g, 21 starts, 8-13 record, 6.12 era, 138ip, 107 k’s – has potential and is a lefty which is golden.
any comments on this deal fellas?!…… cheers!!

Texas..
I’m not sure Texas has the $$$ to sign Doc long term right now…Also, though Holland/Feliz are great, pitchers are so unpredictable and the Jays have a lot of young pitching talent. I would think the Jays would have to get either Chris Davis or Justin Smoak plus one of the pitchers from Texas.

Doc would probably veto a trade to Texas. Did he not do that already?

halladay deal
now…god forbidden we deal Doc to the Yankees,…….but if we did…… we would need the following in Return Minimum:!!!!!!
(this trade sets us up for the future where in 3 years…… i say we take a sustained run at the top of division…. and stay there for years to come: Toronto Deserves Winning Baseball and the fans will show up again . 3-4 million in attendance expected again when the right team is in place. until then give new GM, AA some patience to be right where JP was wrong. Halladay to yankees in return for:
Joba Chamberlain, 24 yrs old, 15-9 career record, 3.61 era, 281 ip, 285k’s
Phil Hughes, 23yrs old, 13-10 career record, 4.20 era, 192 ip, 177k’s
aa cather Jesus Montero, 20 years old, 2009 aa stats -.92 games played, .337 ba, 17hr, 70 rbi, yankees best young power hitter, second best prospect in yankess minor league system.
i see a jays team that competes for it all within 3 years, with the following core:
1b – david cooper (power hitter 22yrs old) , 2b – A.hill 27yrs old, ss – to be determined, 3b – to be determined, c -jesus montero 20yrs old / jp arencibia 21 yrs old, cf – v.wells 31 yrs old, rf, travis snider 21 yrs old, – lf adam lind 26 yrs old, dh randy ruiz. 32 yrs old
sp’s – ricky romero 25 yrd old, dustin mgowan 27yrs old or shaun marcum 28yrs old, joba chamberlain 24 yrs old, phil hughes 23 yrs old, brett cecil 23 yrs old
bp – jesse carlson 29yrs old, jason frasor 32yrs old, jesse litch 24yrs old, mark rzepczynski 24 yrs old, brandon league 26yrs old,
will need to spend fa cash on ss and 3b or trade off : some of SP depth

I highly doubt...
the Yankess would consider giving up Montero, Chamberlain and Hughes for Doc….

lol
well respected yahoo sports writer tim brown tends to agree with me…..if yanks get halladay they need to move joba and hughes…

yeah but montero's worth more than hughes/joba combined
by ayjackson on Nov 13, 2009 11:31 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I don not want Joba....
but yeah they likely would not do all three.

plus montero probably won't actually stick at C
he’ll be a 1B/DH type, from what most say

i would have to look very seriously at the deal if they offered all 3
by aagoodfella on Nov 13, 2009 3:01 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I'd look seriously if they offered Montero and one of the pitchers....
or Austin Jackson and a distant prospect….
or Montero and yer mamma.
by ayjackson on Nov 13, 2009 10:56 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
that would be montero AND jackson and a distant prospect

You say ‘compete’ as if a team with carlson, league AND litsch in the bullpen isnt guarenteed to win it all
Cannot play with 'em, cannot win with 'em, cannot coach with 'em. Cant do it.

Phillies...
Cole Hamels + (?) for Doc????
by bunner on Nov 13, 2009 1:59 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Id want to trade Doc to the NL...
mainly because hed go 20-0 with a 1.50ERA there, and because i dont really want to watch him pitch against us.
Dogers and Phillies seem like legit options… but then again, I wouldnt say no to the Angels.
No chance hes going to Texas or anywhere inside the AL East unless we got the package of Hughes, Joba and Montero for him… and even then its a stretch. Fan backlash would be ridiculous… and i personally dont like to think that Doc is a big enough douchebag to ever play for the Yankees.

anyone would become a big enough douchebag to play for the Yankees if they threw enough money at them…Just ask Mark Teixeira or CC Sabathia (I’d say Burnett but I think he was already a douchebag)

From the Yanks I’d want three of Montero, Hughes, Chamberlain, Jackson otherwise it’s not worth it.
From the Sox I’d want three of Buchholz, Kelly, Westmoreland, Anderson, Bard.
From the Angels I’d want one of Sean Rodriquez/Wood/Aybar, one of Weaver/Saunders and one prospect. Maybe through in Mathis if prospect is lesser.

Just to follow up, if we are trading to our division rivals our franchise player of franchise players, I don’t want to “give” Roy away for anything less than top quality. In 10 years I don’t want to look back and say we handed the Sox/Yanks the WS in return for nobodies (see Cone, Clemens). I’d rather hang onto Roy, try to convince him to stay, and if he doesn’t let him walk and collect the picks – this would also have the added benefit that the average fan would blame Halladay/Yanks/lack of salary cap for our woes rather than the Jays.
