Hall of Fame Poll: Harold Baines
One of the more interesting names on the list, Harold Baines has 2866 hits, 384 homers and 1628 RBI in a 22 year career, to look at all his numbers click here. If Edgar Martinez gets consideration then Baines should some too. But Baines only received 5.9% of the vote last year, barely keeping him on the ballot this year.

Baines has nice counting numbers but a 120 career OPS+ is pretty marginal (in HOF terms) for a one-dimensional player. I think his low vote totals reflect a general sense that he was a very good player who amassed huge numbers by playing for a very long time. Nothing wrong with that, but he wouldn’t get my vote. Edgar’s career OPS+ was 147, a huge difference. (he also likely wouldn’t get my vote, but I’d give him a vote before Baines.)

Baines was a good player. Hall of Fame should be for elite players.
