Roy Halladay: Off-season Trade or No Trade At All
ESPN is reporting that Roy Halladay's camp are saying that if there is to be any trade, it must be completed this off-season, or Halladay will veto any deal. In other words, the Jays no longer have the option of moving Halladay at the 2010 trade deadline. Presumably, Roy wishes to avoid another incidence of the trade deadline three-ring circus that he suffered through in 2009. Can you blame him? Anyhow, ESPN is citing a partner at the firm where his point-agent is currently situated.

Interesting tidbit from The Star today:
Richard Griffin explains how JP botched the whole process…I also agree with his third point and said something similar at the time of all the rumours in July that the Jays had a better shot of getting MLB ready talent in the off-season rather then at the deadline so hopefully that works out because I think with Roy’s comments here that he’s signed his ticket out of town.
Roy, in his own quiet way, signed his own ticket out of town last season …. just that folks deluded with Halladay enfatuation could not let go.
Roy did the Jays a favour by letting them know long in advance. Ultimately, if the Jays do not get a good trade, they only have themselves to blame. Of course the Jays can still get a good deal. Perhaps they Jays could hold an auction offering exclusive Halladay negotiation rights in exchange for contingent auction package (ie: players and other consideration to be exchanged if a deal with Roy is closed).
I think they will still get a good deal for Doc…he’s a top 5 starter in the league. He’ll get traded to a winner (which he wants) and sign a long term extension likely at a fair market value for his services (I don’t see him demanding to be the top paid pitcher in all of baseball or anything like that). The teams rumoured to be in the running (NY, Boston, LA Angels or Phillies) all have the financial wherewithall to sign Doc and the young talent the Jays seek in return. Also there will be the desire to beat the other team to the punch and acquire Doc (especially between the 3 AL teams).
Ultimately I see a trade happening, the Jays getting a decent haul in return sometime after the winter meetings next week.
What do you mean by this
sign a long term extension likely at a fair market value for his services (I don’t see him demanding to be the top paid pitcher in all of baseball or anything like that
He’s probably the best pitcher in baseball, and if he isn’t, the only guy he might be behind is Tim Lincecum. Obviously, since Lincecum is so young, he won’t be the highest paid, so how could Halladay receive fair market value for his services if he is not the highest-paid pitcher in baseball?
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
I mean...
I don’t see Doc being a douche and making extension talks with prospective clubs very difficult
So you're saying that he isn't looking for fair market value for his services
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
Well, if the Jays don’t trade him, maybe a miracle could happen and the Jays could pull off a little Rays ‘08. And if they do maybe he will decide to stay! Ha, I’m dreaming, I know. All I can say is, if they trade him to the Yankees or Sox, they can kiss absolutely any chance of doing much of anything in the next 5 years goodbye, because he WILL come back to haunt them. In other words, DO NOT TRADE HIM IN THE DIVISION!!
yay or nay

so is that just your propsosal?
