Around SBN: Jeremy Lin Continues Rampage, New York Wins On Road

Sentiment within some corners of NYY organization is that TOR got less talent than what they would've required from the Yankees in a deal.

Of course Yankees think their prospects walk on water.

I think they got one Group A prospect less than they should have. Call Arte.

because the Angels aren't known

for being ridiculously reluctant to deal their top prospects or anything

Shut up New York

Would I rather have Montero/Jackson/Hughes over Drabek/Taylor/D’Arnaud?

Yes but it didn’t appear thay they offered that deal and that is the only deal that would have trumped the Phili deal.
Plus this way he is in the NL and we don’t have to concede the AL East for the next 5 years.

Depends how you think of the prospects

I don’t think Montero will stay a catcher. Jackson I don’t see as being much more than an average major league CF. Hughes I like but maybe he is better suited to being a reliever, in which case I like Drabek much better.

Obviously time will tell

All I heard is that Montero and Jackson will be superstars. Then again I heard this from the NY media so I should take what they say with a grain of salt.

Even if it was a coin flip between the groups of prospects, getting Doc outta the AL East is worth alot.

That is a pretty important consideration

Its almost like getting a 4th throw-away prospect. Not worth a ton in the long run, but still a chance to help us out.

Even if the Yankees supposed offer was slightly better

I’d still do the Phillies trade just so the Jays would not have to bat against Doc regularly.

It's not having to face Halladay I would be worried about

It’s about having to be better than a team with Halladay AND all the money in the world. Montero/Hughes doesn’t do you much good if the Yankees sign Mauer after 2010.

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

A Comparison

When I was in college, I worked selling pools and pool supplies for four summers. Equipment for inground concrete pools was always at least 50% more than similar parts for a normal pre-fab inground pool with a liner. I decided one day to ask the owner.

As he explained, there were some minor differences in terms of the surface, alkaline levels, water balance, etc, that necessitated concrete equipment was different and was not as mass produced as normal equipment. But the main reason for the difference in price?

An average liner pool is about $20,000 to install. An average concrete pool is about $45,000. In short, if you can afford to have a concrete pool, you can afford to pay more to maintain it.

So, yeah, if you can afford to buy every free agent on the market every year, you can afford to pay more in prospects for the guys you have to trade for.

I read that...

The Yanks were willing to offer Montero but not Hughes or Joba…sounds like a pretty weak deal then.
