Carlos Perez, c
Didn't know Stewart was such a big deal. I have no idea who Jake Marisnick is, or Carlos Perez for that matter. This was made before the Halladay trade was official. I assume that Drabek will be at number one, Stewart to two, Wallace at three, D'Arnaud at four, Arencebia at five and so on. Something like that, I don't know a lot about Wallace though. |

Carlos Perez is a very young catcher that played rookie league last year...
Marisnick was our 4th round draft pick this year.
it is really cool
we have 3 new top-10 prospects now

Rolen Trade
Mark my words – this will be counted on as one of the greatest trade steals of last year. JP absolutely abused the Reds.
Coming from the driver of the EE bandwagon :)

True
But to get an (at least) serviceable starting 3B and top prospects who immediately make the top 10 list, including the number 1 spot? I’d say that’s got some serious potential.
I wouldn't rank Roenicke nearly as high as he's ranked here
but I agree it was a great trade for the Jays. I really hope Stewart sticks as a starter.

Yeah Roenicke needs to improve
and like I keep saying we have J.P AND Perez why the heck would we trade for D`Arnaud? Espcially now we have Buck and Castro… makes NO sense to me at all
Because no prospect is a sure thing
For all we know, all three could never take an AB in the majors.
why would having Buck and Castro
have anything in the world to do with acquiring an A ball catcher in a trade?

How many catcher-of-the-futures have the Jays gone through in the last 8 years?
The fact is that the Jays have not produced a catcher from their farm system in a long long time despite obviously trying to do so. Now they are trying the quantity approach hoping that if they throw enough of them at the wall, one of them will stick.
Buck and Castro will be gone before any of our catcher prospects are ready for the big leagues
JP sucked last season, so hes not a sure thing anymore… and D’Arnaud looks like he could be really good.
Onions Baby Onions
Also..
You always need 3 or 4 catchers who can at least play a major league level game. Just about every team in the majors fields at least 3 catchers per season simply because it’s a very grueling position on the body.
Having a bevy of young catchers helps to ensure that the supply of backstops remains young, home-grown (ie. accustomed to the young pitching staffs they presumably went through the minors with) and cheap.
Why do we do this to ourselves?
My New Top 10
1) Drabek
2) Wallace
3) Stewart
4) D’Arnaud
5) Jenkins
6) Arencibia
7) Alvarez
8) Cooper
9) Roenicke
10) Marisnick
Stewart is a reliever
and has a chance to be a top notch set-up man/closer. Probably our closer of 2011.
HEADING STRAIGHT FOR THEM, I PRESS DOWN MAH GUNS!
The plan isn't that Stewart be a reliever...
they just wanted to watch his innings last year. he started for most of the season and will again next year.
does anyone actually think theyre is a time frame ( for winning ) that could be put in place before the season starts ??? or is it going to be ait and see ?

As in a World Series??
Or just being good enough to play meaningful baseball?
Realistically, this time is at least two seasons away from a meaningful September. Some of the bats could heat up and the young rotation might throw beebees all year but baseball doesn’t usually allow for that sort of thing….. Win totals for the next three seasons will probably go 70, 75, 80 respectively.
From then on it will depend on how guys like Wallace, Roenicke, Stewart, Drabek and Snider pan out.
Why do we do this to ourselves?
everybody from seattle is harping on this trade
( makes me happy LOL ) but aside from one starting and being a year younger is theyre much of a difference in the two players .
Does this have anything to do with the HALLaday trade ?
in the way we were not provided anything from the M’S intially ?
someone referenced this on the BJ site through MLB.com
I do prefer bjbanter much more
