Roy Halladay Rumor of the Day
From Jordan Bastian:
A report on FOXSports.com noted that the Rays have talked to the Jays about Halladay, and the clubs have discussed including a third team. Tampa Bay could reportedly offer pitcher Wade Davis and outfielder B.J. Upton, and Toronto might consider flipping Upton to another club as part of the trade.
Yeah I'd take that one right away, not sure that I'd want to flip Upton, he would be someone I'd want to keep.
I guess I could note that Peter Gammons says the Rays have 'flatly denied' this rumor.

I don't get the idea of flipping Upton
it would be trading very low on him, wouldn’t it? can’t argue with 6 years of Wade Davis and Upton has plenty of upside

Upton
Wasn’t he batting 9th last year? I know he has been great, but didn’t he really struggle last year?

OK, this I can see
Keep Upton and put him in CF, trade him after next season once he increases his value and before he gets expensive.
Marcum-Davis-Romero would be a solid top of the rotation.
Get them to add in Reid Brigniac (ready to step in as SS at 2011 at the latest, Rays have Tim Beckham knocking at the door), and sign on the dotted line.
doesn't make sense
I don’t see how a team that would have to leapfrog both the Red Sox and Yankees meets Doc’s definition of a “contender.” As awesome as he is, I don’t see him being enough to get Tampa over the hump. Might as well stay with the Jays at that point, really.
Tampa also gave away Kazmir for virtually nothing to shed salary, so it’s hard to imagine them taking on a $16M, 33-year-old pitcher and then trying to extend him.
It’s an interesting theory and would be a nice idea if it could be made to work, but I don’t see it working. At the end of the day, it’ll be the Yankees, Red Sox, and maybe Angels; I really think we’re fooling ourselves if we spend much time considering any other possibilities.
I would not qualify that as an immediately acceptable offer, I would qualify it as an acceptable, “i need to discuss it with my principals and we will get back to you offer”. It is a reasonable offer, but I think the Jays can probably do a better deal than that.
man I'd take it so fast heads would spin.....
Two top talents….I haven’t seen another offer like that one.
I like this deal...
But I think the TB needs to shed some salary to make it happen. If TB could find a 3rd team willing to take on Pat Burrell it might work out.
Upton/Davis are by far the best package the Jays have been offered from what I can see, and if there was a way for the Jays to get Reid Brignac included too it would be the best case scenario for the team.
As much as I’d love to have either Upton, I don’t think the penny-pinching Rays are a team that will pursue Halladay.

I don't know anything about Wade Davis
Can someone enlighten me as to what kind of ‘stuff’ he’s got, and how far away from the majors he is?

Good write up there…John Sickels had him as the #13 pitching prospect in baseball heading into ’09
Major concern is with walks, not uncommon for a young pitcher.
