Verlander

Given Verlanders BRUTAL season last year, I’m sure the Jays are all fighting their way to get to the plate ASAP

I have a 4pm meeting

that frequently runs long, so hopefully the introductions take longer than scheduled.

I HATE SPORTSNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

guess what sportnet west gets to see?
prime time sports and flames this week instead of the season opener.
when will they learn NOOOOOONE listens to crappy sports radio? why would i watch it?

i understand a bigger market for a important flames game but can’t they at least show us the first 7 innings?????

by rabbit on Apr 6, 2009 7:10 PM EDT reply actions

Good call Rince

Off to the bar to watch the game. I agree, Bob McCowan sucks; show the beginning of the game then move into the Flames game afterwards. Stupid Sportsnet
Add lineup by next week
Overbay
Hill
Rios
Wells
Lind
Rolen
Snider
Barajas
Scutaro

Or something like that. Space out the lefties and righties a little more. Move Scutaro and Barajas to the bottom. Bump Snider up a bit. They could even bat Lind 2nd, Hill first. Just no sense batting Scoots and Rod the Bod so above Snider

nice inning Doc

let’s get him some runs early

by Tom Dakers on Apr 6, 2009 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

Gotta run

back for the end. Go Jays!!!

by SuckaMD on Apr 6, 2009 7:35 PM EDT reply actions

I like Barja too

I value good d behind the plate and Barajas at least offers that. Molina has a good bat though.

P.S. I “love” aki berg too.

I forget which analyst on MLB network it was

He was talking about how he’d played on teams where the stadium is packed on opening day and if you win it’s packed again, but if you lose there’s like 500 people there.

Well what can you do?

Not like I want a 2 minute delay on my game.

The kids are all right

Wow Lind and Snider good great tonight – it’s a long year but if these kids can play steady all year it might make up for the less than ideal production we get from the corner infield spots.

Lind has already done something Rios didn't do last year

Hit a 3 run homer.

The Jays play almost the first 5 weeks against the AL Central

If we can play strong in April against weak opposition, maybe Beeston loosens to the pursestrings a little to add some pieces that struggling teams decide to sell off?

We need to chew up their bullpen

and set ourselves up for the rest of this series.

Yeah, an 8 RBI day would have been ridiculous.

you never know with Cito

wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Doc start the 8th

by SuckaMD on Apr 6, 2009 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm sure Doc will have the option

but there’s a bit too far to go for him to get a complete game at this point.

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

by Torgen on Apr 6, 2009 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

No CG

But I bet Cito trots him out for the 8th with a guy ready at the first sign of trouble. I think Cito’s gonna ride Doc hard all season to save the pen for the next 4 games which will probably be more unpredictable

by SuckaMD on Apr 6, 2009 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Litsch won't be quite that unpredictable

His 2007 FIP was way above his ERA, but in 2008 it was definitely in the range where the difference could be explained by our good defense and not just by luck. (Apart from being lucky to have been drafted by a team that would have a good defense when he became a major leaguer.)

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

by Torgen on Apr 6, 2009 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm with you with Litsch

although Cito isn’t really one to use FIP as a guide, so he may not be as trusting of Litsch as you are (at least not initially).

by SuckaMD on Apr 6, 2009 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Is going 7 innings good for the beginning of the season??

by Carm on Apr 6, 2009 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions

going 7 innings is good for any part of the season

we get kind of spoiled watching Doc go 8+ most starts. Most teams are thrilled with 7 inning starts. 5 runs isn’t good, but you can’t win em all.

Three straight breaking balls

Three straight swinging strikes from Overbay

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

by Torgen on Apr 6, 2009 9:24 PM EDT reply actions

Overbay should not be facing LHP

unless, I suppose, we are up and need his defense.. Like here. Still pretty painful to watch though

by SuckaMD on Apr 6, 2009 9:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess Cito wants to start the year strong.

A couple of ground ball singles

Okay, Downs can come in. (It’s a save situation now.)

It’s not like he’d be taking one from BJ.

Hill's entrance music is Slow Ride?

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

by Torgen on Apr 6, 2009 9:44 PM EDT reply actions

I like the song

Not sure I like it as entrance music.

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

by Torgen on Apr 6, 2009 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I've actually noticed

that many of the Jays get different entrance tracks for different at bats in the same game. For example, IIRC, Darren Fletcher used to have the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but clips from both Give It Away and Scar Tissue (which was a fairly new track when he was with the Jays) would play at different parts of the game.

Of course, Raul Mondesi always had the Raul Mondesi Mambo

I remember Glaus used Crazy Train

Did he use anything else?

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

Don't remember

some guys had the same one, others were different. I think Zaun had some Rush but also Linkin Park or something else of that nature

by SuckaMD on Apr 6, 2009 9:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Good job keeping Scutaro from going to third on that hit and run

by Everett. I was worried Scoot would round the corner too far.

flare single up the middle

only 1 run, Rios held at 3rd.

The pitch before, he jacked one foul. Thought he had another HR for a second.
