Game 2 GameThread: Tigers at Jays
Detroit Tigers at Toronto Blue Jays, Apr 7, 2009 7:07 PM EDT
Not that I think tonight can go as well as last night, I'm looking forward to seeing how well Purcey does. I think he's going to have a good season for us. Not that I'll get to see the game because it isn't on any of the Sportsnet channels I get. Damn.
Same lineup for the Jays tonight. Since they all had at least one hit yesterday life is good. I guess we shouldn't hope for double digit runs scored every night, but I do think their offense will be better this year. Jackson had a good start against us in spring training, I'm hoping they learned something.
Something I missed earlier, Richard Griffin has an interesting Roger Clemen story on his blog.
Anyway even without the game on TV join us in the Game Thread, let's see if Lind can drive in 6 again today.

“really brings a sense of calm. doesn’t move much, as a matter of fact I haven’t seen him move from that position at all.”
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon

"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
ya, some liquor license violations from last season
so the Ont. gov’t forced them to have two dry game this season. Anyone know the specifics of the infraction?
i wonder if it has to do with Wayne MacMahon
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
I suspect it was the cheap tuesdays
Possibly letting people bring their own.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I'm not sure they announced it but think it was something to do with selling cheap beer on $2 tuesday
first they want payroll floors for teams, now beer prices?
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
well they'd like to keep people from buying and buying till they is drunk and fighting...
I gave up my football season tickets because there were fights all around me a lot of games…I sometimes take my youngest son…when guys are fighting right in front of him I’m not happy
people drunk in Calgary?
who would have thought
yeah
agreed. i was a flyers game a few weeks ago against the bruins and there were these completely hammered bruins fans with their kids. it was pretty weird to say the least. they got ejected, which was probably the right thing to do, but i couldnt help thinking that if they had been wearing orange and black instead of yellow and black the ushers wouldn’t have cared . . .
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
My middle boy is an usher for the flames games....
they are careful there but the stamps just pump beer into people
I will admit that I've gotten drunk at my fair share of sporting events
but I don’t understand the need to be belligerent and look for fights.
agreed.
and especially not with kids around.
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
i dont even get into fights with yankee fans
and sometimes they’re looking for it
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
no, she said:
hehe thats a way to keep people itnerested
i go, buy the cheapest seats (unless the person i’m with really really relaly likes the game) and then get drunk…even better is when the dome is open
Some creeper on the bus told her or something.
Lind grounds barely fair
Wells up to 3rd.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Grounded it to the drawn in corner
Not like he popped it up.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
like to see the replay on this one
inge double
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
good call by the ump, was barely safe though
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Jerry is telling us why Cito didn't get up and argue....
sorry Jerry he doesn’t move for nothing…fossilized some might say
Inge doubles
Snider makes a great throw to get it in to 2B in time, Hill misses the tag
Needed to block the ground with the glove
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
for his drafting
they didnt mention russ adams
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
agreed
was just saying, if you talk about the good, should also mention the not-so-good
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Nice double play on the 3-1 pitch
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
helps when the team only has one hit
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Hill K's
and the throw to first to make it official
manage to avoid DP
with hit and run . . .
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Purcey gets out of it
with a pop up and a grounder to Hill
Lind strikes out on a fastball out of the zone
after getting ahead 2-0, three straight strikes
Looked like he took a hittable one on the 2-0 count
Down and in… isn’t that the lefty money zone?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
ghost of denbo continues to haunt us
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Where was he looking if not there?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Cito will let him have it if true
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Strike him out
throw him out
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Ok, now let's get the bats working
after the K, CS DP
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Cito seems to think Snider has some speed
Think he’ll steal?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
cant really afford to lose the baserunner or the out if he gets caught
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
He was running on the 3-1 count
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
thought that had a chance to get out
but just warning track
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Hill with the 2 out RBI chance
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I think we're all looking forward to Jon Hale
showing us whether Purcey is really getting squeezed.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
that's how we felt at Skydome
I can tell you that. But you’re right, we await Mockingbird to tell us if it’s true….
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
oh well
at least that wasn’t a cheapie
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
And they almost got the out at second
but another wild pitch went to center
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
yep, both teams did little league
the tigers just happened to be the lucky ones
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
wild pitch to start the intentional pass
ricocheted off the wall behind the plate, barajas had the runner at second picked off halfway between second and third because the runner at third initially broke to the plate but turned around.
then barajas threw the ball into centrefield and both runners advanced
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
ok
i think this just turned into little league
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
League was warming up
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
and thats why intentionally walking brandon inge is not necessary
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Rolen saves a run
spears a liner
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Maybe the bats can wake up and get Purce off the hook
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
OK, heart of our order
Its time for late inning heroics.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
groundout to second not terribly heroic
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
and wells groundout looked like a rios carboncopy
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
How did we suck against him all those other times?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Camp robbed of a strike 3 call
turns into a walk
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
and now 2nd and 3rd
should have been out of the inning, that was clearly strike3
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Ok, good enough
now let’s septuple our hit total for this game
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Ok
not the prettiest way to get a runner on, but we’ll take it for sure
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
overbay can steal 2nd and then they can intentionally walk barajas because first base is open
then moonraker can crank one
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
(unfortunately it was lucky for the tigers, not the jays)
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Scoot singles up the middle
Now if Hill can add about 20 or 30 feet to his fly ball from last time…
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I called it
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Aaron Hill: 2007's best hitter on breaking balls

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
How fast can BJ warm up?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Where in their lineup are we?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
The problem with the bottom three

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I just want to point out how awesome this WPA graph is

by the way, i think we need
that blue jay homerun graphic for the two hrs
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Blowing it right by them
with soft cheese.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Our 4-5-6 due up
Maybe we can get that first walk-off win about 4 months sooner than last year
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I think we had one or two against Seattle
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon

"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
yeah, you didn't get to see it
but it was a great play
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
I don't think he loses his job over one blown save
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Not with Cito....he'll give him a least a couple more chances....
unless the next save is tomorrow BJ will get the shot at it
Why not two days in a row?
It’s not like last year where he was coming off surgery.
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
won't need it
jessel will pitch a shutout
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Is he faster than Mac?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon

"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"

"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
like you said, rince
tigers bullpen was not good
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Taking home the Lamp and Ainge respectively?
Or what did we call the reliever’s one in the end?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
I guess Hinske makes sense
if we expect better. Ainge is for if someone we expect to suck sucks as much as we expect. Oh, and maybe it was Caudell for the bullpen?
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Sorry, that's Caudill
"He almost has to start. Do you believe in miracles?"
Well turned out to be great fun in the end....

"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon

"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
yep gave up three runs
on six hits though. but should be a good sign looking forward, plus he’s in line for the win, so . . . he does well in one meaningless stat but not as well in another
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
great walkoff win for Minnesota
which I saw in the pub after the Jays’ game, ruins his chance at the win. Very exciting game though not as good as ours!
