And I’m Sure There’s Something More Than Memory Across the Maryland Bridge Tonight: Game Thread, Jays at Baltimore

Toronto Blue Jays at Baltimore Orioles, May 26, 2009 7:05 PM EDT

So looks like Alex Rios gets the day off today after starting every game thusfar. According to both Rios and Cito, it's a simple day off, despite Rios being a late scratch.   Ricky Romero makes his first start back from the majors tonight after a strained oblique muscle, while Jason Berken, up from AAA, makes his first mlb start for Baltimore.

A slump is one thing, but our offense has been nothing short of horrendous at producing runs over the past 7 games.  We've wasted a number of credible pitching performances, so hopefully that comes to an end tonight.  Let's go Jays!

Today's title from "Maryland Bridge" by the incredible Winnipeg band the Weakerthans.

Anyone else feel like we’re due for a win? ….Like a Twins-over-White-Sox-style win? …if need be I’ll even settle for White-Sox-over-Angels-style win…

Shit, I'll take a Indians over Rays style win.

If we lose that type of game, I give up.

If its a close game and BJ gets in the game

I’m turning the channel to 2 1/2 men and handing in my Bluejay fan card.

I’ve heard people call in with good points (though arguments I disagree with) and Wilner just dismisses them out of hand because they’re arguing something with which he doesn’t agree, so he doesn’t even really listen.

A few comments from a guy who didn't watch the game

Romero’s line was interesting. 12:1 groundout:flyout ratio, yet he gives up 11 hits and 3 HR. How’s that happen?

It appears Rios wasn’t the sole problem for the lineup. However he doesn’t deserve to bat above 6th until he gets a hot streak going. And I’m talking 2+ series of sustained hotness.

I guess you can’t count on Hill to hit a HR every 8 AB (estimate) as he did the first 40 games. Or anybody to hit a HR in the last 7 games. Haven’t had one since Millar vs. Wakefield in the 2-1 loss.

For anyone who praises the value of smallball (although you don’t see many on here), this is what happens when your hitters go cold. The Jays don’t have anyone who’s a threat to do damage at all times…even though Wells gets paid like one.

It really sucks when your hitters all go cold at once.

true and sad

i think Hill’s HR ratio was about 18 AB, but I actually don’t remember if it was 18 AB or PA. whatever. Either way… i think just about everyone is due.

Totally agree. The jays go as Wells and Rios go because they cost all the money.
