You Know, Coming Up With Recap Titles After Losses is Getting Tough

Jays 2 Orioles 7

What I don't understand is how you can get 9 hits and 5 walks and only score 2 runs. Still haven't had a homer in lord knows how long. Everyone had a hit except Rolen who walked twice and Inglett who walked once. Scoot had 3 hits.

Romero looked good in the early going but only went 5.1 innings and gave up 11 hits, 3 homers, and 5 earned. Carlson pitched a perfect 1.2 innings. Scott Downs got into the game for his first action in days and didn't do well. Likely needs to work more than once a week. Gave up 2 runs in an inning.

Orioles rookie Jason Berken didn't look great but then he didn't have to with our offensive.

No Jay of the Day, guess a honorable mention to Scoot. Suckage Jays are Romero (-.275 WPA) and Hill (-.141). Rolen left 5 guys on base today but then everybody but Barajas left guys on base.

Tomorrow is an afternoon game again and Doc is pitching. I'd say we'll pull out of this tomorrow but I've said it a few times before. It has to end sometime, right?

its amazing

how we are still in the AL race with 8 staright loses… with Boston losing tonight and the Yankees tied up, who knows…

and from the looks of it, we have a favorable June schedule… 26 games… 16 of them at home… we need to take advantage… but it starts with the red sox series…

by Aquamelli on May 27, 2009 12:30 AM EDT reply actions

yeah we were a good team.....

how a team that was that good could fall apart so badly, I don’t know.

by Tom Dakers on May 27, 2009 12:54 AM EDT up reply actions

overnight no less...

i dunno if wakefield ruined us or what… but even a few games in the whitesox series, we struggled with RISP

we need to turn this thing around quick, otherwise we will find ourselves out of contention in this division… going up against 2 dynasties is never an easy mountain to climb

by Aquamelli on May 27, 2009 1:14 AM EDT up reply actions

It'll end tomorrow...

is what I would’ve said last week… But the way this roadtrip has gone, I’ve elected to go with “It should end tomorrow”.

Don't forget...

While Halladay might be the Jays stopper…remember what happened in his last start. He pitched great but his team scored 0 runs. So its not going to matter how well Halladay pitches tomorrow if his team doesn’t help him out.

At least we might have taken it into extras tied

if we hadn’t had to pinch hit for Doc.

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

by Torgen on May 27, 2009 12:15 PM EDT up reply actions

And also, the fact that the Jays faced a struggling Guthrie yesterday and a guy making his major league debut today, coupled by the Orioles having the 3rd worst pitching staff in the league…this streak should have been over yesterday. Sigh…

by Icedragon on May 27, 2009 1:41 AM EDT up reply actions

But its an early afternoon game again tomorrow…so at least we can see if the Jays can snap this streak earlier rather than later.

by Icedragon on May 27, 2009 1:42 AM EDT reply actions

I seem to recall the Jays have a very good day-time record

And about a .500 night time record. Obviously that’s probably changed from when it was pointed out (last week some time I think), but we gotta take any hope wherever we see it.

I think we're 14-4 in day games now

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

I benched Rich Hill in my fantasy league hoping the Jays will score 15 runs against him tomorrow. I may regret it but thats how bad i want them to start to win right now… i bench every pitcher that starts against the Jays.

perspective and predictions

OK. I’m going to try to put this losing streak into some kind of positive perspective. All losses occurred on the road. The best road record in the AL right now is 12-11 (NY). That’s pretty bad. The Jays, with their 28th road game today, have the most road games played in the AL. Given the way teams are playing on the road this year, I think this makes the Jays current record more impressive, and makes me feel a bit better about this awful streak.
So, I’m also going to make a little prediction. By way of making this prediction, it will occur. So I will accept thank you’s from y’all on June 7. The Jays will win today with Halladay on the mound. They will then win the Boston series at home and finish with a 6-3 home stand or better. That will make them at least 7-3 in their next 10, and should be good enough to put them back into first place as they approach interleague play.
Believe… And it will happen my friends

News Flash! Cito made a managerial move!

Rios got the night off last night. From the sound of things, he has a lot of work to do with his swing. Now Wells and Scutaro need days off as well. There are good players on the bench who are hitting and getting on base. They are capable veterans that should be used.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw the lineup. They must be reading our blogs.

Lucky boxers are on

Im getting desperate here… the lucky boxers from yester-year are on… they barely fit, but dammit Im willing to take one for the team… I dont think Ill be able to keep my sanity if we lose another 1-0 game

22 LOB Last Night

By my count, that makes 95 left on base during the current losing streak. So their due for a huge night tonight, right?

by andyfest on May 27, 2009 9:21 AM EDT reply actions

Is a slightly misleading stat....

leadoff off guy walks and the next three don’t get him home, it is counted as 3 LOB. we didn’t have 22 baserunners yesterday. We had 14 baserunners and 2 scored which is a bad enough stat. Team LOB is 10. 2 for 13 with RISP which is sad too.

Not to be a Dismal Dory but....

….do you remember the last time a team lost 9 games in a row and then won the World Series later in the year?

No?

There’s a reason why. It happened in 1953 with the Yankees and it’s the only time it ever happened in history.

The only other time I know of that a team lost eight in a row and then came back to win the World Series was the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals, who played in the abomination known as the NL Central.

by BMN on May 27, 2009 9:21 AM EDT reply actions

And yet the Jays are only 1.5 games out of first

And there’s an opportunity to pull back within 0.5 tonight. Not the end of the world.

Stranger things have happened...

Don’t forget that Boston rallied from a 3-0 series deficit against the Yankees of all teams a few years ago and went on to win their first WS title in what, 100 years? How often have teams rallied from 3-0 series deficits? Not many, thats for sure.

It was the only time it had been done.

The worst part is that Jason Berken looked terrible

We all got excited scoring 2 runs. Then we left runners at the corners with 0 out. I hate how cynical this losing streak has made me but when we left those runners stranded and Huff hit that knock, I was almost certain we would lose. Then Jaime Fox (Who is apparently batting 2nd for the O’s) hit that ball 230948290 feet, I turned on the Cavs/Magic game. This doesn’t make me a bad fan, just tired of watching losing.

Berken is the luckiest kid alive

If he was facing the Jays a month ago, final score would have been 12-2 for the Jays.

So you got to watch the Cavs blow yet another half time lead huh? I know what you mean about being tired of watching the Jays lose. Over the course of this losing streak, as soon as the other team gets the lead I turn off the game, because I don’t think the Jays will manage to come back and I know I’ll just end up getting frustrated. And guess what? The Jays have yet to come back in one of the games.

by Icedragon on May 27, 2009 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions

haha ya.

That being said Lebron is a beast. When he is done playing, people are going to say Jordan who?

Happiness is a long walk with a putter in your hand.

by craig in calgary on May 27, 2009 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Indeed, but he needs more support from his teammates. Thats why they are losing 3-1 in the series. He’s putting up great numbers every game (40+ ppg), but the rest of the guys aren’t doing much of anything. See what you’ve done Jays?? You’ve driven us to talk about basketball on a blog for you! You should be ashamed!

by Icedragon on May 27, 2009 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions

(Hangs head in shame)

That being said I’d rather talk about Basketball then listen to people talk about how much the Jays suck and Cito Sucks and Vernon sucks and Rios sucks……….etc etc etc

It certainly is amazing what one losing skid can do huh? Look at the Yankees fans when the Yanks were losing…they were crying left, right, and center. And then when the Yankees won 9, suddenly the Yankees were the greatest team ever again. Lets not be Yankees fans.
