bullpen setup needs some work

Joining the action late but from looking at the boxscore it looks like Roy left a little early? Or at least Cito needs to figure out now that Downs is the closer who is the 8th inning guy? I don’t have time to look it up, but my memory tells me Carlson has played a pivotal role in screwing up 3 games in the 8th just on this losing streak and yet he is out there again in the 8th today (the pitching equivalent of not messing with the batting order perhaps.) Then that is compounded by bringing in the closer in the 8th. It looks like Frasor needs to be the 8th inning guy then Downs the closer. That formula could have saved us the potential pain of watching Ryan pitching now…..since Cito likes everybody to have a role I’m surprised he hasn’t applied it to the bullpen yet….

nothing moral about it

and it’s not any kind of victory. Just an observation

Holy crap. That sucked. They suck. I blame Cito. Bringing in BJ Ryan was stupid.

Of all the stupid moves Cito made

you’re bringing up BJ?

hard to say

OK, I have to ask

Why was Millar still playing first? I have to imagine that Overbay would’ve done a better job at getting to either of those balls. Maybe not, but he is a better defensive 1B-man.

And why Brian Wolf? I know that he hates League, but he’s actually been pretty darn good in his last 7 games or so. Just one bad inning.

League was clearly the right call

he has had his control problems but more often than not has been effective

I'm actually stunned that he brought in Carlson

In the bottom of the eigth, didn’t Carlson face all righties? Wouldn’t League have made sense at that point? Plus the fact that Carlson has lost, like, three games during this streak. Why not go with someone else?

Huff and Scott were due up that inning

so it made sense to go to Carlson – but once he failed to get them out, there was no reason to keep him in the game

well

we showed we can score again. I bet that part of it carries over to the Red Sox series. Still, 3 sweeps in a row is gutting

Some losses are worse than others

I can’t remember a worse one?

This was awful. Real bad. A unmitigated disaster.

blowing a 5-run lead in the 8th inning and a 2-run lead in extra innings

to extend an 8-game losing streak is about as bad as it can possibly get

sad thing is

it wasnt really surprising. especially after Carlson hit the batter. you could just see this coming

by jlahey on May 27, 2009 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Not good. Could be three more losses to make it 12 now. All confidence in the bullpen just disappeared.

Bye guys.

See you again. Maybe…

Tomorrow is an off day

Would anyone in the rotation be skipped so that the rest of the starters can keep their routine and give the bullpen an extra arm?

by PFHLai on May 27, 2009 5:31 PM EDT reply actions

Richmond is already going to be skipped

He’ll be busy this weekend. Him and Frasor. The rest of the ’pen needs to take a hike or go Camping or something….

Doesn't matter

We had rain down here in Atlanta but they played through that and still lost :-S

what the fuck

what the fuck this is absolute horseshit. i can’t follow this team anymore

Side notes

Camp be sent down, he’d have to clear waivers (but who in god’s name would want to claim him).

On a plus note, we set the record (i assume) for most posts in game thread(s)
