And In the Evening They're Bringing Me Down: Game Thread, Red Socks at Blue Jays

Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays, May 29, 2009 7:07 PM EDT

Today's thread comes from a song off Roman Candle's new record, Oh Tall Tree in the Year, which I have been listening to more or less constantly since I got it earlier this week.

The Jays look to get back on track today and there are no major changes to the team in terms of bullpen or lineup. That said, Cito agreed that he needs to give Jesse Carlson more of a break.  In addition, he confirmed that Scott Richmond will be the one skipped over so that the other starters remain on usual rest.  Why Richmond?  Because "he's the fifth starter."  Robert Ray apparently has a right shoulder strain, hopefully it's nothing serious.  And Scott Downs, who has been nursing a hamstring strain, is availalbe to pitch - hopefully better than he has his last two times out.

Casey Janssen starts for the Jays, while Jay-frustrator Tim Wakefield pitches for the BoSox.  Let's go Jays!

Today is a good day

Sun is shining, Moosehead is chilling, Steaks are seasoned, and today is the day that the Jay’s get off the schneid.

no self-respecting Calgarian (Calgarite?) drinks Moosehead. Tom, I think you’ve been trapped in the “no true Scotsman” fallacy

I've started to sour on Keith's myself

used to drink it a lot, not so into it anymore. I’ve started going to Newcastle Brown Ale as my go-to 6 pack (actually cheaper than a 6 pack Keith’s, though 12 or 24 are more expensive)

Question about that richochet

Had Lowell missed the throw would it have been charge as an error? Or would the deflection off another player make it into a non-error situation?

I’m asking because I’m arguing with my dad about the scoring for my own game 2 weeks ago where I lined it off the pitcher and the 3rd baseman had to rush the throw and just missed the 1st baseman.

i think i'd mark it a hit

though i guess it depends on how hard the ball is hit back at the pitcher

Did you get 2nd on the throw? I think that would be ruled a single and then an error if you moved up. Otherwise it is just a single as it doesn’t sound like a play a normal player makes.
