Game Thread for Game 33, Jays at A's

Toronto Blue Jays at Oakland Athletics, May 9, 2009 4:05 PM EDT

So we've lost 2 in a row for just the second time in a row. Today's starters:

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2009 - Sean Gallagher 1-0 4 0 0 0 0 0 7.0 8 3 3 0 2 6 3.86 1.43

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2009 - Brian Tallet 1-1 8 4 0 0 0 0 29.1 27 20 19 6 14 22 5.83 1.40

Lineups:

Scott Rolen and Rod Barajas get the day game after the night game off.

In other news Ricky Romero had a bad rehab start for Class A Dunedin, giving up 6 runs in 4 innings. Ouch. Janssen is to start Tuesday and Romero Wednesday  both in New Hampshire.

Oh oh, run out of time...post this quick, join me in the thread.

OPS+ of 82 last year. But I guess he’s about as good as you can get off the scrap heap

first to third

on a flare to right field.

Aided by the hit and run call, Kennedy might have had it if he didn’t have to cover second

Wow

Impressive stat for Lind. 1st in DH RBIs by double-digits. Still early in the season, but that’s a great sign considering the black hole that has been the TO DH

I'm back for more

Of the two catchers on the team Cito Gaston made his major league debut on, one is currently managing and one is a broadcaster. Who are they?

by theBrouhaha on May 9, 2009 4:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I dont know what team Cito debuted on

so I’m just naming former catchers I can think of

by theBrouhaha on May 9, 2009 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nope!

Terry Francona’s father was also on that team. What a collection.

by theBrouhaha on May 9, 2009 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I couldn't think of anyone else who was likely on that team

but I also wasn’t sure if you would ask a question with a straightforward answer like that

by SuckaMD on May 9, 2009 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Want to guess one more?

One of the pitchers from that team (1967 Braves) appeared with the 1987 Blue Jays. Who was it?

I just said that because I started loving baseball because of my grandpa (both of my grandfathers were named Eugene and pitched for minor league teams)

that pitch was wayyyy outside to K Bautista

Re-watching it on the DVR

Ball looks about at the white lines marking the lefty batters box. Combine that with the camera offset and it coulda been.

true

but it looked like Snider got a slow jump on the hit, which is why they held him. If he had gotten a better start, he should have been able to beat even a good throw

Downs has now appeared in 15 games

which is more than any other closer in the AL. Only Francisco in Texas has been in 14. Downs pitched in 3 of 4 games and had 3 days of rest (Wed-Fri). He needs work? Can’t handle 4 days of rest after pitching 3/4? I find that rather unlikely.
