Game Thread for Game 33, Jays at A's
Toronto Blue Jays at Oakland Athletics, May 9, 2009 4:05 PM EDT
So we've lost 2 in a row for just the second time in a row. Today's starters:
Lineups:
Scott Rolen and Rod Barajas get the day game after the night game off.
In other news Ricky Romero had a bad rehab start for Class A Dunedin, giving up 6 runs in 4 innings. Ouch. Janssen is to start Tuesday and Romero Wednesday both in New Hampshire.
Oh oh, run out of time...post this quick, join me in the thread.

Ya, weren't they up 3-0 yesterday?
We all saw how that turned out :S

Scoot out at first. Very close.

Hill strikes out
he hasn’t looked great past few games
Ouch
That one looked like it stings. Rios to 1st on HBP

first to third
on a flare to right field.
Aided by the hit and run call, Kennedy might have had it if he didn’t have to cover second
Wells flares into right
Rios running on the play and advances to 3rd

Come on Adam
gotta chase down Eva(n) for the RBI lead
there's one
grounder gets just by the first and second basemen for a single
Wow
Impressive stat for Lind. 1st in DH RBIs by double-digits. Still early in the season, but that’s a great sign considering the black hole that has been the TO DH

Nice. Single from Lind through the gap between 1st and 2nd
Cashes Rios and Wells going to 3rd.

I'm back for more
Of the two catchers on the team Cito Gaston made his major league debut on, one is currently managing and one is a broadcaster. Who are they?
I dont know what team Cito debuted on
so I’m just naming former catchers I can think of
Also on that team
the leader in SB, SF, HR, 2B, and H’s was….?
Nope!
Terry Francona’s father was also on that team. What a collection.
I couldn't think of anyone else who was likely on that team
but I also wasn’t sure if you would ask a question with a straightforward answer like that
Want to guess one more?
One of the pitchers from that team (1967 Braves) appeared with the 1987 Blue Jays. Who was it?
Mine too
He was one of my grandpa’s favorite pitchers
Hear that Tom? He just said you're old.

Nah
I just said that because I started loving baseball because of my grandpa (both of my grandfathers were named Eugene and pitched for minor league teams)
Oh wow
that pitch was wayyyy outside to K Bautista
Re-watching it on the DVR
Ball looks about at the white lines marking the lefty batters box. Combine that with the camera offset and it coulda been.

Bautista K'd looking
Maybe he has a point, pitch was close. Gameday shows it catching the outside edge.
I don't want to play golf. When I hit a ball, I want someone else to go chase it. ~Rogers Hornsby
but without the camera bias
how can you argue?
Gameday shows it as virtually the exact same spot as Bautista's

KOs Holliday.
Ya, definitely getting the feeling that the pitchers are going to love it. Hitters, not so much.

First strike on Overbay very wide.
It’s going to be a fairly free-swinging day by that hitters… that strike zone is big.

LYLE!

that's not a homerun
but a pop-up double after Griffin’s boy loses it in the sun.
Yikes.
Lucky play for Snider. Cabrera loses the ball in the sun, Snider makes it into second.

Hill doing his best Wells impression
infield popup on the first pitch
Scooter's single to right
not that hard hit and I can’t imagine Cust has a rocket in RF
was a good throw....no chance....they let the throw thru and it was on the money...he'd have been out by 5 yards
true
but it looked like Snider got a slow jump on the hit, which is why they held him. If he had gotten a better start, he should have been able to beat even a good throw
Well, hearing now that Oakland is playing with a short bench...
Maybe we should have sent the former fullback for a run :P Just kidding

Snidet?
I have never heard of this Snidet guy? I know that we have a Snider on the team, but when was Snidet called up? end sarcasm

Lind just hits over that instead.
RBI double from Lind.

Alright Lind, 7 more RBIs today. 8 to take the lead. Let's do this!

Oh well
one run an inning is a decent pace. And Tallet has looked good so far
Yeah but we have to get ready for the HR
after they break the no-no.

what is this "no-no" you speak of?
I have no idea what you are talking about
Yep

I think so
Chavez made the out in plenty of time. Might have been bang-bang with Big Rod, but he would have made it
There goes the no hitter
on a Holliday flare to right
a few more=runs
gentlemen=Blue Jays.
Sorry, I should have been clearer there
single, SB, error on the throw, SF
scores Bautista
Tallet has been a revelation
It’s amazing how deep the team has proven to be.
Good trade by JP
We got back the pitcher we gave up for Tallet this year.

I'd really like to see the bullpen up
they’re well rested and we’ve had trouble putting runs across. No need to show too much confidence
did he hit it off tallet?
Who is pitching tomorrow?
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
For A's, I mean
is it still braden?

"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon

just saying would be nice if he could. hopefully jays will be up big, though
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Wow
That was going to go fair, doubt he would have got him.

what about howie kendrick going to third the other day?
just to kill doc’s shutout
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
yep, agreed
and if he doesnt score, do you think doc comes back out for the ninth? that would have been a mistake for sure, would have finished with 120-130 pitches

About 3 seats to the left of his last one.

downs has been worked like crazy this season
why bring him in with a 5 run lead? Does Cito want his arm to fall off?
and good thing he had a 5-run lead this time
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron" -- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Downs has now appeared in 15 games
which is more than any other closer in the AL. Only Francisco in Texas has been in 14. Downs pitched in 3 of 4 games and had 3 days of rest (Wed-Fri). He needs work? Can’t handle 4 days of rest after pitching 3/4? I find that rather unlikely.
downs didn't pitch the last 3 days....and will have monday off.....
I don’t think he is over worked at the moment. no reason not to get him an inning today….don’t than he didn’t pitch well…..
I hope that was mocking someone
who’d actually be dumb enough to say that, though I don’t know if such a person actually exists

Hopefully will be around for game tomorrow, Have a good one. Nice to be back in the win column and should be in first once the TB-Bos game concludes!

What was WPA?
not possible to have a suckage if you finish and win the game, right?
