Were They All Just Lost in the Flood?: GameThread for Toronto Blue Jays at Texas Rangers, 11 June 2009, 8:05 PM EDT

Toronto Blue Jays at Texas Rangers, Jun 11, 2009 8:05 PM EDT

Okay, so after last night's rainout, the Jays will again look for their season-best-tying fourth straight win and the series sweep against the Texas Rangers.  The Jays will once again attempt to turn to Ricky Romero, who seemed to straighten himself out a bit last time out against K.C. and the Rangers look to Kevin Millwood to end their recent slide.  It was mentioned last night that Millwood's 2.96 ERA thus far this season has been largely the result of good luck (he has a 4.95 FIP), so hopefully that luck runs out tonight against a well-rested Jays team ready to bop a couple into the seats.

Johnny Mac is once again denied playing time because of last night's postponement.  Marco Scutaro, who had been given the day off before the rainout yesterday, is back in the lineup tonight and leads off. Barajas gets the night off with Raul Chavez doing the catching and batting ninth.

It would be very nice to take this one tonight and go back home for the series against the Marlins after a sweep, but however tonight's game goes, any road series win is a good thing, and the performance we saw out of Casey Janssen on Tuesday was particularly encouraging.  See you all in the thread and, as always, Let's Go Jays!

I thought I'd be able to predict the title for tonight's thread

figured you’d go with “It’s flooding down in Texas/All the telephone lines are down” from Stevie Ray Vaughan. But that may be too well known a source for you

Ahh

Well, I wasn’t trying to be obscure. I mean, I did pick a Bruce Springsteen song. That would have been an excellent choice as well, though

but that's baseball

hitting the ball hard is most likely to result in a hit; sometimes it’s right at someone and results in a lucky out (like there). Soft hits are less likely to go for hits, but sometimes they find a hole for a hit. That doesn’t mean that hitting the ball soft every time is the way to go.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Frank Francisco is still day-to-day with a strained shoulder. He said he wasn’t available to pitch Wednesday and won’t be Thursday, either. Manager Ron Washington did not say whether Francisco would be the closer when he is healthy, but said left-hander C.J. Wilson is the closer for now. “I’m not going to get into that right now,” Washington said. “We’ll just have to wait and see how effective Frankie is when he comes back to throw. It’s not certain that he’s going to be the closer and it’s not certain that he’s not going to be the closer. I can’t make that determination until he throws.”
