Were They All Just Lost in the Flood?: GameThread for Toronto Blue Jays at Texas Rangers, 11 June 2009, 8:05 PM EDT
Toronto Blue Jays at Texas Rangers, Jun 11, 2009 8:05 PM EDT
Okay, so after last night's rainout, the Jays will again look for their season-best-tying fourth straight win and the series sweep against the Texas Rangers. The Jays will once again attempt to turn to Ricky Romero, who seemed to straighten himself out a bit last time out against K.C. and the Rangers look to Kevin Millwood to end their recent slide. It was mentioned last night that Millwood's 2.96 ERA thus far this season has been largely the result of good luck (he has a 4.95 FIP), so hopefully that luck runs out tonight against a well-rested Jays team ready to bop a couple into the seats.
Johnny Mac is once again denied playing time because of last night's postponement. Marco Scutaro, who had been given the day off before the rainout yesterday, is back in the lineup tonight and leads off. Barajas gets the night off with Raul Chavez doing the catching and batting ninth.
It would be very nice to take this one tonight and go back home for the series against the Marlins after a sweep, but however tonight's game goes, any road series win is a good thing, and the performance we saw out of Casey Janssen on Tuesday was particularly encouraging. See you all in the thread and, as always, Let's Go Jays!

Time to get the miniature brooms out, boys
it’s not a real sweep with a rainout
still a three-game series, though
a four-game sweep is a long one

I thought I'd be able to predict the title for tonight's thread
figured you’d go with “It’s flooding down in Texas/All the telephone lines are down” from Stevie Ray Vaughan. But that may be too well known a source for you

Well, I wasn’t trying to be obscure. I mean, I did pick a Bruce Springsteen song. That would have been an excellent choice as well, though

Scooter
seems to be swinging at first pitches more often lately. May not be a terrible idea, since he’s probably getting a lot of fastballs, but he was so good at working counts earlier in the season
Probably thought it looked good.

ya, I agree
I thought it looked good too. Not necessarily a bad idea, but earlier in the season he wasn’t swinging at those pitches and was still getting on base a lot
yeah I think I mentioned the other day
that it seems like he’s managed to compensate for a dropping walk-rate with an increasing hit-rate. seems like it would be easier to do that the other way around, though

hitting the ball hard is most likely to result in a hit; sometimes it’s right at someone and results in a lucky out (like there). Soft hits are less likely to go for hits, but sometimes they find a hole for a hit. That doesn’t mean that hitting the ball soft every time is the way to go.

He didn’t drive in a run either.

Oh no's
To bad Linds good season makes up for that, keep on keeping on though, you always do that.
In the grand scheme of things, the pain of life is not worth it.
So because of Lind's season so far
His inability to drive in some runs in the first is not the same as Wells’s and he therefore did not cost us the game but Wells may have?
Doesn't mean he didn't cost us this game exactly as much as Wells did
by which I mean 4% of this game each.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
also
it’s a 1-0 game and barely half over. Many more Jays will cost us the game if the score doesn’t change
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
Yeah except you can't expect a batter to drive in runs at every opportunity
With Wells, you can never expect it. I love the people that continue to tell me to wait until Wells heats up. Its been two months already, a 15 million dollar player should be heated up once April hits. Keep it up though, its highly amusing.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Frank Francisco is still day-to-day with a strained shoulder. He said he wasn’t available to pitch Wednesday and won’t be Thursday, either. Manager Ron Washington did not say whether Francisco would be the closer when he is healthy, but said left-hander C.J. Wilson is the closer for now. “I’m not going to get into that right now,” Washington said. “We’ll just have to wait and see how effective Frankie is when he comes back to throw. It’s not certain that he’s going to be the closer and it’s not certain that he’s not going to be the closer. I can’t make that determination until he throws.”

she lives about an hour or so out of town....
and she leaves late at night…on a road with a lot of deer…as I’m new at this part of being a father, feels funny to me to say ‘you have her stay over if it is late’
LOL
Best not to think of those things. I remember the first time my girlfriend stayed the night with me at my parents – my mom just says “Be a gentleman.” Whatever that meant.

but, the Jays win 2 of 3
a series at a time is how the jays took the AL lead before the slide, and likely will be how they catch it again
good series Jay
nice outting Romeo
well
it’s still a series win on the road. And if our non-Doc pitching is like this, we’re going to win a lot of games

just frustrating on the overall
because of how many runs we scored previously

you guys think that Lind coulda gone to 3rd
on his double in the 9th??
I thought for sure it was gonna be a triple
the jays give up four runs in three games @ arlington vs, the rangers.
and that’s without doc.

my goal of 18 wins for june
is still very possible… in my opinion, anything more then 18 is a bonus…and i honestly didnt expect that we would take 2 of 3 from texas (or even 2 of 4)
go jays… sweep the fish
