Where the Land Is Low and the Water Flows To and Holds You: Game Thread 6/13, Marlins at Jays

Miami Marlins at Toronto Blue Jays, Jun 13, 2009 1:07 PM EDT

Hi all -

Rough one yesterday.  Still no conclusive news on Halladay, but mlb.com Jays beat writer Jordan Bastian expects we'll know something by the end of the game. The Jays were planning on skipping Scott Richmond's next start as well, so if Doc has to miss a start, Richmond will be the fill-in.

The Jays have still yet to win one in interleague play and starter Casey Janssen hopes that will change today.  Janssen is coming off arguably his best start of the season, where he took a shutout into the 6th inning in Arlington before leaving in the middle of the 6th after a somewhat bizzare and unfortunate series of events. Sean West starts for the Marlins and the Jays hope to get their offense going off him after two subpar days for the offense.  The Jays send Millar and Bautista out against the lefty West, but as Scott Rolen gets the day off after the night game, Bautista is in at third and so Lyle Overbay is still starting.  Raul Chavez starts behind the dish.

In minor-league news, Scott Campbell is rehabbing after a leg injury has caused him to miss the last month or so.  Campbell has played a couple of games in Dunedin (at third base) and he's got 4 hits, so he seems healthy and will probably return to AAA soon.  Russ Adams also returned to the lineup after about a month off due to injury and has also collected a lot of hits in his 2 games back.  He's also been playing shortstop for Vegas.  Travis Snider, however, is still having back problems and isn't expected to play again until July.  If he doesn't come back super-strong, he'll probably be a September callup if anything.

Not sure how much of the game I'll get to watch today, but do stop in the thread if you're around watching the game.

Today's title comes from the song "Love Dog" from TV on the Radio's Dear Science, a record I really like.

See, that way sounds way better than A-Bomb

because we don’t abbreviate Lind’s name.

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

Adam Bomb...

wasn’t that a wrestler in the ’90s?

Lind was just late on a hanging slider

geez Millar has a fast bat

that first pitch was 93mph and he was way early on it

from Bastian

No DL for Roy Halladay (mild right groin strain). May or may not start Saturday for the Blue Jays.

probably just need to get some massage therapy ;-)

by aagoodfella on Jun 13, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions

after that he might have to do some lunges and such

by aagoodfella on Jun 13, 2009 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Three fastballs up and Millar can't do anything with them.

Wells alleviates some of the hate

well even if he was pinch hit for so that Rios got moved to center, i think Rios could probably get there

Please don't walk someone in front of Cody Ross

Millar has really been struggling

if he does not get better, Dellucci pickup might start looking good

by aagoodfella on Jun 13, 2009 3:40 PM EDT reply actions

come on Frasor

lets get the Jays bats back on the field

by aagoodfella on Jun 13, 2009 3:42 PM EDT reply actions

Not really

Awful high for a slider

by Torgen on Jun 13, 2009 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess if you know he's looking fastball

you can throw that, but it’s risky, and you should actually get it in the strike zone.

thats sad

but a good sign for Rios

by jlahey on Jun 13, 2009 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Do you steal, or keep the hole open for Lyle?

They might just walk him to face Bautista if you steal

option

base runner should steal if it looks good ….

Rios caught stealing third

Bautista was awful cooperative getting out of the way of the throw

And ya... Bautista... stay up. Take the throw in the face if needed. We needed that runner over there.

nice cut off by Wells to keep that to a single though

good job (so far) by bullpen today

but used up lots of arms

really need to get a win out of this for all those bull pen arms

Hmmm

Hill and Wells get a chance to drive in Barajas… but FFS HILL!

Optimism, I like it...

Now if we can get a starting pitcher into the 5th inning, that’d be nice.

0-5 today, .241 average for Wells now

maybe he’s playing hurt? least that would explain something

by jlahey on Jun 13, 2009 4:17 PM EDT reply actions

His LD% and HR/BIA certainly resemble 2007

when he supposedly hurt his shoulder running into the wall.

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

by Torgen on Jun 13, 2009 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

got this from Bastian on Wells

Since his last HR (5/6), he’s hit .201 (27-134) with 7 RBIs over 35 games.

by jlahey on Jun 13, 2009 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Then again, his GB%, LD%, FB%, and IFF% are almost identical to last year's numbers

but his BABIP is down 40 points and his HR/BIA is half what it was then.

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
