Your Love is Like the City, Only Shines at Night Your Love has No Pity Baby Baby That's All Right, Angels at Jays Game Thread
Los Angeles Angels at Toronto Blue Jays, Jun 2, 2009 7:07 PM EDT
We should have a pitchers duel tonight, Doc (8-1, 2.63) vs Joe Saunders (6-3, 3.26). Saunders is a lefty so we get Millar and Bautista tonight. Neither of them had a great May, but the calendar has flipped so time to break out of the slide. Millar in particular was awful in May hitting a big .218. I'm afraid that's more or less what I expected of him this year. But he was great in April so I'm hoping he gets back to that. If he doesn't I'd rather have Overbay out there, even if he doesn't hit lefties, at least his glove is great. Millar has hit Saunders well, .500 in 24 at bats with 2 homers. Small sample size warnings as always. A lot of our guys have hit Joe well.
Today's line up:
Today's title is from a Joe Ely song, Letter to L.A. The version of it from Live at Liberty Lunch has a couple of those great extended guitar solos that proves to me that even us hacker guitar players can get it right once in a while.
Join us in the thread. I think I should be around for most of it tonight before I have to run off.

Potato Trade Show
there should be some serious home runs over the next 3 days .. Yankees stadium gives up way more homeruns than other parks and Tue-Thur the homer-banging Rangers in town, by bar the biggest home run hitting team in the league … the Rangers could really rack em up … and dare we hope … sweep the Yankees

Raines should be in the hall of fame.....though I'm not sure I'd say 80 steals a year is a 'little thing' but he was great
by Tom Dakers on Jun 2, 2009 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’s amazing to watch a player that is a threat to steal every time he gets on first because it really messes up the pitcher. I love that.
I agree. Raines should be in hall of fame. 5th all time in stolen bases and a great leadoff hitter. I am probably the only person left with a giant Tim Raines picture on my wall.

5/31 Bos 0/3
5/30 Bos 1/5
5/29 Bos 1/5
5/27 @Bal 2/6
5/26 @Bal 1/5
5/25 @Bal 1/4

I think he was just hotter than hell at the start and now coming back to Earth a bit. He’s pretty much been carrying the team from the perspective that wells and Rios haven’t been performing to their potential. Rios starting to though. If Wells and Rios hitting really well, the Aaron sees even more pitches. It’s amazing how well Hill has hit even with Wells and Rios not at their best.

Downs is lights out
With Downs in the pen, there’s no reason Halladay shoul be going out there. If so, it’s not so awesome anymore that Cito is afraid of Halladay.

How do you guys consider 15ish more pitches to hurt him for next game?
The numbers are arbitrary, it’s how he feels…

best way to unjure a pitcher is to have him throw tired

More to the point...
The guy has had two straight no decisions which he should have won. Now it’s all in his hands. If for some crazy reason Downs were to blow it, what does that do to Doc that 15 more pitches could potentially do…
This is for him a lot

Nobody's even warming?
If Doc gets in trouble, they’ll just let him blow the lead?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

I agree,
I am just surprised Cito actually did it. We all have been complaining that he doesn’t do it.

Has there been
anyone as consistently amazing for as long as he has been! Class act all the way. I pray to God he is never in Yankee pinstripes, but couldn’t blame him if it ever came to that.

would surprise me if he'd play for Yanks or Sox
I don’t think he would want all the attention that goes with it. Maybe Phillies, Angels, Dodgers. I think and hope he’ll stay a Jay forever, but it would be kinda cool if he could bring a World Series to the Cubs too.
