Your Love is Like the City, Only Shines at Night Your Love has No Pity Baby Baby That's All Right, Angels at Jays Game Thread
Los Angeles Angels at Toronto Blue Jays, Jun 2, 2009 7:07 PM EDT
We should have a pitchers duel tonight, Doc (8-1, 2.63) vs Joe Saunders (6-3, 3.26). Saunders is a lefty so we get Millar and Bautista tonight. Neither of them had a great May, but the calendar has flipped so time to break out of the slide. Millar in particular was awful in May hitting a big .218. I'm afraid that's more or less what I expected of him this year. But he was great in April so I'm hoping he gets back to that. If he doesn't I'd rather have Overbay out there, even if he doesn't hit lefties, at least his glove is great. Millar has hit Saunders well, .500 in 24 at bats with 2 homers. Small sample size warnings as always. A lot of our guys have hit Joe well.
Today's line up:
Today's title is from a Joe Ely song, Letter to L.A. The version of it from Live at Liberty Lunch has a couple of those great extended guitar solos that proves to me that even us hacker guitar players can get it right once in a while.
Join us in the thread. I think I should be around for most of it tonight before I have to run off.

there should be some serious home runs over the next 3 days .. Yankees stadium gives up way more homeruns than other parks and Tue-Thur the homer-banging Rangers in town, by bar the biggest home run hitting team in the league … the Rangers could really rack em up … and dare we hope … sweep the Yankees
Jays vs. Angels
15 wins for the Jays in last 22 visits by the Angels
crap
dinky broken bat single to start it off.
In the grand scheme of things, the pain of life is not worth it.
Ya know, I gotta say Guerrero has always been one of my favorite players.

It’s funny, but I prefer the radio. Don’t really need HD as I when imagining it it’s all in HD.

Sports Sync Radio. Really need to pick one up so I can listen to Jerry and Alan and watch on TV….

I just use the laptop and carry it around the house to wherever I am. Although I need internet radio in the car. Ottawa only has Jays on the radio on the weekends. It’s truly a hockey town.

Nice pick by scutaro. Harder than he made it look.

My favourite player of all time was Tim Raines. I like the guys that do the little things. Scoot is one of those.

Raines should be in the hall of fame.....though I'm not sure I'd say 80 steals a year is a 'little thing' but he was great
It’s amazing to watch a player that is a threat to steal every time he gets on first because it really messes up the pitcher. I love that.
I agree. Raines should be in hall of fame. 5th all time in stolen bases and a great leadoff hitter. I am probably the only person left with a giant Tim Raines picture on my wall.

2nd best leadoff man ever....only reason he isn't in the Hall is he played at the same time as the best leadoff man
And he took cocaine. But I see past that.
Raines might still make it.
Henderson was fun to watch too.

Well that was a pretty torrid pace to keep up

Stats since the Baltimore series
5/31 Bos 0/3
5/30 Bos 1/5
5/29 Bos 1/5
5/27 @Bal 2/6
5/26 @Bal 1/5
5/25 @Bal 1/4
So I guess he means that since he didn’t get a hit in the last Boston game he is slumping

I think he was just hotter than hell at the start and now coming back to Earth a bit. He’s pretty much been carrying the team from the perspective that wells and Rios haven’t been performing to their potential. Rios starting to though. If Wells and Rios hitting really well, the Aaron sees even more pitches. It’s amazing how well Hill has hit even with Wells and Rios not at their best.

Hard to believe a ball could bounce twice and still beat Rios to first
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Boston up 1-0 in the bottom of the 1st @ Detroit.

I’d like to face that curve to see it fall off the planet. Must be so deceiving.

The only good news is that I have Saunders in my roto league. Not cheering for him though.

Evening all!
Just in time to see Barajas run run run! boy, it never gets old
BAUTISTA!!!
Nice triple!
Only problem is that Barajas won’t be able to play the rest of the game… needs oxygen :P

Jays just moved up
from tied for 29th in triples to 28th … assuming Mariners do not get any tonight
damnit, we just needed a damn sac fly

What are the stats on sacrifices overall?
by BigTimeBlueJayFan on Jun 2, 2009 7:42 PM EDT reply actions
Suprisingly we are only 3 out of first for SF. We could easily be in first. Easily.
by BigTimeBlueJayFan on Jun 2, 2009 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions
We are second in LOB.
Not sure how great a stat that is. I’d like to see RLISP (Runners left in scoring position).
by BigTimeBlueJayFan on Jun 2, 2009 7:46 PM EDT up reply actions
Is there a total LOB stat for individual players? There must be somewhere. Not on MLB site.
by BigTimeBlueJayFan on Jun 2, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions
we may be going for a shutout tonight
and like a 1 or 2 or 3 hitter
still early though
I would like a 1-0 jays win so my roto team also benefits.

Alex is on fire.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
So that reminds me,
In MLB 09 the show, during the walkup, the in stadium announcer says Alexis Rios, While everywhere else in the game says Alex. Its very strange, although I know that is his full name.
Someone on the online message boards for the game posted that it was a bug :) Made me laugh a bit.

i am starting to think that Roy is gonna regret that first hit
for blowing a no-no

I think Rios hit a high one out
so I’m not sure why he took that one… maybe guessed wrong 0-2?

Already had it

LOL
yea, I saw the catcher look off Barajas at first earlier tonight and had a chuckle
And then Lind steals second
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
it does make me wonder
why Cito pitch ran Macdonald for Lind on 3rd earlier this year when still would have had a couple of at bats … that move left me scratching my head
Heads Up
Lind needs to get a little more heads up when running … i have seen him kind of tune out to what is going on the field when he is cruising into base … he needs to work on that
I don't think they'll stretch his pitch count to do it
That 7 pitch inning sure helped his pace.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
id like to see it
but i agree with torgen, no reason to stretch his count
i mean, the bullpen cant possibly blow THIS lead?! right…. ? lol
And there goes the mlb.tv feed
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Mine just came back
but it’s in commercial… I guess they pulled Saunders?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
just read your post
What is the opposite of jinxing, cause that’s what you did by making a big deal out of Millar and Bautista’s month of May. They’ve been awesome tonight!
Stats night
this is one of those nights that makes the Jays team stats look great … team offense and ERA get a boost
tough thing about Aussie pitchers
their pitches rotate in the opposite direction
CRICKEY
Yankees took the lead on a bases loaded RBI groundout
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
After two straight pitches inside
Doc doesn’t go away to try to get the K.

Yanks now up 9-3
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
only 2 homers so far
below average for yankees stadium
Rios couldn't get that one into either of the nearby sets of stands

Halladay going back out?
No League?

Maybe Doc wanted the ball?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
No it was Halladay going back into the Dugout and looking at Cito with death in his eyes and saying
“Im going back out there”
I believe in Karma. That means I can do bad things to people all day long and I assume they deserve it. - Dogbert
I think Cito is scared of Doc
And that’s awesome for some reason
Or perhaps,
“Give me the back the ball if you want to live”

I can't believe there's even a chance Doc is going to pitch the 9th
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
come on
Roy is done
he needs to be rested for next game
Downs is lights out
With Downs in the pen, there’s no reason Halladay shoul be going out there. If so, it’s not so awesome anymore that Cito is afraid of Halladay.
How do you guys consider 15ish more pitches to hurt him for next game?
The numbers are arbitrary, it’s how he feels…
More to the point...
The guy has had two straight no decisions which he should have won. Now it’s all in his hands. If for some crazy reason Downs were to blow it, what does that do to Doc that 15 more pitches could potentially do…
This is for him a lot
Stop doing the WAVE!!!

Nobody's even warming?
If Doc gets in trouble, they’ll just let him blow the lead?

Overbay in as a defensive replacement at first!

the way Beej was throwing last time out
i would be comfortable with him
Looked like the 1-0 pitch was a missed location he got away with

Has there been
anyone as consistently amazing for as long as he has been! Class act all the way. I pray to God he is never in Yankee pinstripes, but couldn’t blame him if it ever came to that.
would surprise me if he'd play for Yanks or Sox
I don’t think he would want all the attention that goes with it. Maybe Phillies, Angels, Dodgers. I think and hope he’ll stay a Jay forever, but it would be kinda cool if he could bring a World Series to the Cubs too.
good shot at series win now
too bad sox and yanks are winning
The difference between .600 and .650 is one win out of 20
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
