No Heart Could Be As Sad As Mine, Ain't Nobody's Fault But Mine: GameThread for Toronto Blue Jays at Washington Nationals, 21 June 2009, 1:35 PM EDT
Toronto Blue Jays at Washington Nationals, Jun 21, 2009 1:35 PM EDT
So the Jays look to avoid the sweep tonight, I don't really want to talk about the first two games. As Carlos Delgado said upon being traded to the New York Mets, "It's not about the past. It's about the present and the future."
Let's get back to our winning ways this afternoon. Lyle's still in the 7 slot and Rolen is still batting cleanup. After scoring a total of four runs in our last 21 innings, a strong performance from Ricky Romero won't guarantee anything, but it sure wouldn't hurt either.

My internet connection crapped out while Cecil was still in
and didn’t come back until around midnight, so I ended up watching the game through the DirecTV Scoreguide. Baseball Tonight did let me see the terrible hanging slider Richmond threw to Harris.

Radio commentator just pointed out
It’s a shame that the Jays pretty well have to concede an out when their pitchers step to the plate. There was no way Romero was going to swing at anything there, and it’s been that way since that rash of injuries last week.
Kinda silly.

RBI baseball was a fun arcade/nintendo 8bit game. One of the bloopers was that the outfielder didn’t field the ball well in the corners and often led to an inside the park homer.

over his career
Adam Dunn OPSes 892 with runners in scoring position and 913 with runners on.
Dunn has played almost all of his career with the Reds in the NL Central. Because of unbalanced scheduling, of course he is going to have more HR against those teams:
Cubs: 38 HR
Astros: 21
Pirates: 26
Brewers: 31
Cardinals: 28
The Cubs play in a pretty high-HR park in Wrigley. I really don’t see the argument that he hits all his HR off only a handful of teams. In fact, as expected, his homeruns are actually spread out pretty evenly amongst the teams he has played.
There are plenty of arguments against getting Adam Dunn, but that is not one of them.

Or not.
I miss when Barajas was top 3 statistically for catchers.

he is streaky
he may be there again - tends to hit in the 260 to 340 range

You've made a range from the lower cusp of an average player
to a Batting Average 12 points higher than anyone in the American League hit last season.
I’d say most players tend to hit in the .260 – .340 range, with the exception of only really, really crappy players and 17 players in baseball history, 13 of whom are Hall of Famers and 16 of whom played before World War II

i m just saying .. for a while he was hitting in the 260 range .. than he roared up to 300 … mathmatically, there is only one way to get there(in such a short period) and that is 340

Oh I see what you're saying
He tends to hit around .250 or .350 . . . you are right about that, he is one streaky dude

yep
like, I think one of the commentators during a Jays game was noting that although Barajas was hitting .300 at the time, that baseball GMs did not consider him a 300 hitter because his numbers at that time were goosed up cuz of a hitting streak … so yea, what you said, he goes through periods in mid-200s and than hits mid-300s etc … — streaky
i think the context of that discussion related to Barajas’ marketability when his contract runs out

Rays took the lead in their game in the top of the 7th
and then with 2 outs they went into a rain delay, so if it doesn’t stop they’ll have to suspend it. Brutal.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

Goodbye Carlson.
I’d love to know what the heck happened to his un-hittable-ness.

The hitters also know him.
Now his tendencies.

I think that's more likely than the overworking, actually
Carlson actually performed better last season with an increased workload. I feel like the deception in his delivery really depends in large part on hitters not knowing what/when it’s coming.
