The Two Umpires

I'm not saying they're a jinx or an omen of suckage to come, but every time I've seen them behind the backstop, the Jays have lost and in a painful way.

By my count, the Jays are 0-5.

Back to back extra innings losses to the Nats.  Beaten up by the YankeesScott Richmond seems to be the most victimized Jay 0-3 or 0-2 with them behind the plate

Omen, jinx or just a poor choice of tickets?  You decide.

no, Mock Umps go big time in DC

during the Nats game, between innings they host a presidential race. It is a run (literally) of those guys with the big oversized heads, likenesses of Lincoln, Washington etc … Anyhow, on Saturday, they called the mock umps onto the field so they could call the winner. Their was an argument with one of the presidents and the mock umps had to throw him out. It was hilarious. Their fame grows.

Pah, Yankees fans aren't there for the game - they're there for the status

Besides, there’s more than enough empty seats in there isn’t there?

Stoeten from the Drunks had a post on this

Read here

- And I agree with him, I think this is getting old and they are just attention grabbing jerks.

now that is some hateful diatribe!

wow, there are some big time mock ump hates there … I am wondering if it is, at least in part, motivated by envy

in any case, characters at the ball park, imho, all make the experience more entertaining so I welcome them all

the mock umps have elevated the practice to a new level that gains them on field, prime seat, and int’l tv and media access …. congrats …. i say, milk it as far as you can, the ride will be over soon enough

sure they are a bit weird, but they are funny and the fact that they can parlay their schtick to such rewards is more a commentary on the peculiarities of the influence of media on human behaviour than it is on their actions in particular

They have a shtick but to me it is no different then the idiot that wave to the camera while on their cellphone behind home plate. It is just as distracting

except

the dude on the cellphone does it once, twice a game? These arseholes are making every. Single. Call.

They must be beaten down, and beaten down hard.

You haven't seen the same cell phone people I have...

spend the whole frigging game talking on the phone, waving. ‘Hey dimwits, those seats have a great view of the baseball game, watch it.’ At least the umpire guys watch the game.

In hockey

there is inevitably some yutz along the corner boards who stands up and waves when the play goes into that corner. I’ve watched games where the “fan” does it every single time the puck goes into the corner.

I guess it’s no different behind the plate, although I guess I haven’t noticed it as much. Typically there is an assumed spectator ethic at the live games I have been to. I wonder if the stadium officials owuld kick them out if too many other patrons complained.

I notice those guys too

I never understand that, don’t you buy tickets to watch the game, not to show up in the corner of the tv screen? I guess I’m a sports fan. It isn’t like your name is announced or that you are going to get paid or something. If the game wasn’t on tv would you still buy the tickets?

Best Fan Ever

Starts at 3:38 of this video, through to the 5:00 mark.

That’s true fan-dom!

I’m a sports fan too, until late in the game after I’ve had a few brews and lose my inhibition. Then, all bets are off

incredible.

best part is the perfect timing of it

DJF

said everything I could ever say about this. I guess it was marginally funny the very first time, but that’s about it
