They Try To Kick It; Their Feet Fall Asleep: 6/24 Game Preview and Thread, Reds at Jays

Cincinnati Reds at Toronto Blue Jays, Jun 24, 2009 7:07 PM EDT

Today's post title comes from another song by the band Metric ("Combat Baby," one of their best).  Maybe this doesn't interest many others on the site, but I picked it because I spent a good part of the afternoon watching the U.S. beat on #1 ranked Spain in the Confederations Cup semi-final!  What a game for United States soccer!   And there is something oh so sweet about ducking out of work to watch sports, isn't there?

Anyway, back to the Jays, they try to make it 3 straight in tonight's game against the Reds.  Scott Richmond pitches for the Jays, while Bronson Arroyo goes for Cincy.  Jeremy Accardo (almost called him Jozy, soccer still on the brain!) is questionable for tonight's game with a dehydration/calf cramp that has now morphed into a minor groin pull.

I've gotta run, band rehearsal, but I should be around for the second half of the game.  Let's go Jays!

Russ Adams moves from LF to DH but no other changes for the Jays (there's a surprise). Bronson Arroyo pitched against the Jays one year ago tonight, we can only hope that tonight goes as well as that start, the Jays scored 10 run against him in just an inning plus.

The MLS team name that bugs me the most is Real Salt Lake

Who’s the king of Salt Lake, that they get a royal team?

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

soccer teams aren't allowed decent names

half the teams in england are called united

I agree

though I find it pretty egotistical that ManUre call themselves as such, when there is another giant team with the same city in its name

soccer team names are all about tradition and I think it's great

it’s how you keep your sport from having names like “Predators” “Thrashers” “Raptors” and “Devil Rays”

I’m not sure. Powders they only use on home games on Fridays, but beyond that I’ll have to google.

MLB Rules 1.11(b)

Seems to indicate that whites are for the home team and a different color is for visiting teams.

But I know that I’ve seen and heard teams flip-flopping for this and that reason.

Baseball should get rid of the away jerseys

The only time a team should not wear its own colour uniform is if it is playing an away game against a team that wears a similar colour (such as both teams wear black). Actually, I think this should apply to all sports teams. I’d love to see the Leafs play in their blue all the time (except they’d have to change if they are playing in NY because the Rangers and the Islanders wear blue as well.)

Especially in baseball, where the team on offense can only be specific spots on the field of play

FWIW, I really don’t like the current Jays uniform that much. It strikes me as being wrong that the Blue Jays uniform isn’t very blue.

2k9 has some really bad glitches

I saw one where if you bunt it foul and it stops, the game thinks its still in play so it will let you keep running the bases, but the fielders’ AI thinks it’s foul so they don’t pick it up. Net effect, foul bunt home run.

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

by Torgen on Jun 24, 2009 7:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh, gotcha

2k8 isn’t that bad for glitches and such. Only thing that frustrated me for a long time was my fielders colliding but I finally got mad enough to open the manual and look it up for “call the ball”. Saved me a controller or two.

I did read the reviews about 2k9 and they helped me decide to not purchase it. I’m waiting for 2k10 since I only have an Xbox 360 and PCs available to me.

I said it looked better because Glaus went on the DL

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

I didn't mean on this site, we've generally been pretty positive

I liked the trade from day 1
