heck

we can call you anything you want VW – just keep hitting!

Notice you’re hitting neck and neck with Ortiz throughout the year – keep it up!

Shut up Vernon

That little interview pissed me off. Fans boo. Thats what we do when our hero’s don’t live up to their expectations. He’s had a nice week or so, lets keep it going and don’t complain about the fans in the media. Our ticket prices are essentially allowing you to cash your Million dollar per month paychecks.

When you win us 2 world championships then go in a prolongued slump, then you will deserve the right to not be booed.

interesting

I didn’t see it as complaining at all, just being a bit self-deprecating. But then, I didn’t see the full interview.

I don't know Vernon

But to me it was very negative to both the fans and the media. It could just be Vernon’s sense of humour, but to me it came off wrong. He could have just said “Sure it bothers me that my fans are booing me, it gives me extra motivation to get them on my side again”. If at his home he can bitch and complain all he wants about the fans and the media riding him…Just don’t do it in front of a camera.

It wasn't just the line

He went on and on and on about thanking the media for supporting him through his stuggles with a goofy looking grin on his face.

so interesting

I took it as his way of telling the fans no hard feelings

Yeah I laughed a little when I saw it.

Vernon has already done interviews about how the slump was bothering him so the fact that he made a joke about it like this shows me that he is loosening up.

I don’t see any harm in this at all.

I loved that line

and craig – this isn’t meant as a jab at you – I personally absolutely hate it when fans boo at home. what does that do? why wouldn’t the player already KNOW that he’s struggling? make him hate coming home and maybe struggle even more? why don’t we take a lesson from Boston fans (never thought I’d say that in my life) and actually support our team through thick and thin…

Funny

I took it as being very sarcastic, much better then the hockey players giving interviews. They always say the same thing and beat it like a dead horse.

Also I thought it funny that you hate it when fans boo, yet your screename is "boo"15749 maybe it is just me I don’t know. I mean no offense by it just thought it to be funny.

I agree with that

Wells definitely doesn’t comment like your typical pro athlete and that really seems to confuse people sometimes. But I really doubt he meant to complain about any fan or media treatment of him, in fact, I took it just the opposite way

I concur...

any time I’m at a home game and I hear people boo’ing the Jays I always get bothered.

The home crowd’s supposed to back the team and show support.

I have to disagree with you on that

An athlete showing a bit of “tongue in cheek” with a sarcastic comment is ok in my books. I think it’s hilarious

I hope to see signs in the crowd tonight like “I LOVE YOU BOO!”
