Jays @ Seattle - July 27-29
Hey all. In tonight's gamethread we were talking about people going down to Seattle to watch the Jays play the Ms at the end of July. My dad and I have been meaning to make this trip now for a couple years and finally my work shifts are lining up to allow me to get down there (and we both finally got our acts together and got passports).
So, I'm looking to do 2 things with this post: a) find out if anyone else is planning on heading down there and b) get accomodation advice/other things to do advice.
So, I guess I'm open for suggestions and advice - the only time I've left the country is for an Air Cadet trip to Fairchild AFB, so I'm a little in the dark as to travelling.

LOL, well that much I put together.
Stupid passport photos though – Sear screwed up the first batch and there was a very subtle, very light band of blue across the top of the photo and they rejected it… even though everything else in the photo was good.

I got my passport last year
They don’t let you wear glasses or smile or anything.
/insert government rant here
I’ve got the whole week booked off, but three games might be a bit much for the ol’ wallet. Is anyone else considering seeing all three games?
The last time I was in Seattle I didn’t even stay the night, so this will be an adventure for me as well. Especially so as I’ll be driving.
Makes sense to me
I keep thinking of the dollars, but the reality is the last Canucks game I went to cost me more than three games at Safeco will. I’d be foolish NOT to watch all three games. Really. Heh.
Seats behind the Jays dugout are going for $60 each. Having never been to a ball game before, where’s a good spot to sit? I doubt there are any bad seats in Safeco, but the thought of watching the game from left field doesn’t really appeal to me.
Would be a great spot...
I’ve sat in a few places there. I liked the restaurant area too…but behind the jays dugout would be great.
You have to have a Bluebird Banter poster if you are sitting behind the dugout.

I should come along
It would be way easier/cheaper to go to Seattle then it would be to go to Toronto.

How about this sign?
Ticket from Calgary to Seatle: $599
Jays/M’s Tickets: $60
12 Moosehead: $25
Having Rance Mulliniks mention Bluebird Banter on air: Priceless

Unfortunately Westjet doesn't fly to Seattle
Alaska Airlines seems to have some decent prices.

We're thinking of changing up where we sit in each game (depending on how many we decide to see)
Say 1 behind the dugout, 1 in the outfield bleachers and 1 in the balcony somewhere.

One of the guys I worked with last year gave me the idea.
He went with friends to watch BOS-NYY at Old Yankee Stadium and that’s what they did. 3 different locations to kinda get a different experience/view of the action each game.

stick around
for a couple of extra days …. Seattle is just an awesome city IMHO
Was looking at the Pike Place Downtown
Found it for $93 bucks a night… which is better than the $175 through Best Western. Surely there is something cheaper than $90 a night though.
yeah, that's pretty cheap
I stayed in the Mediterranean last time I was there, which is in Queen Anne, near the Space Needle. It was about $100 a night. Great area, though it’s a hike from their to the ballpark.

Do you get to bill out all your expenses?
If so, I hate you. :-)
I’ve got to figure out how to make this a work-related trip.
That's the place my dad and I are looking at
Spent a while on hotel review sites last night and anything much cheaper got very well ripped-into by the reviewers… I was hoping for something cheap as well, but oh well. 100$ a night isn’t terrible.

Stayed here a few years ago

We slept six people in the room. I slept in a chair because it took up less floor space.

Ya, we looked hard at that one because we saw it mentioned in the game thread
But it sounds like it might have declined a bit in quality. Saw a ton of negative reviews about it, so we’re probably passing on it.

I hate it when they make the Seattle games midweek and the Oakland games weekend
If it was the other way around I could go to 5 of them instead of 3.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
PRICELINE.COM!!!
Hey man, go to priceline.com and name your own price… my buddies and I went to Seattle a few months ago on a saturday night and we put a bid in last minute on a hotel (you dont get to choose which one) of $80… it got accepted and we were on the 23rd floor of a hotel in downtown seattle pretty much beside safeco… I can only assume on a tuesday or wednesday you can bid like 40 bucks and get it accepted cause they just wanna fill rooms!
Is anyone else doing this?
How low did anyone else get and what hotel did they give you?
I got a room at the Best Western Exec for $70 a night, which seems especially good to me considering it is right next to the Space Needle, and 2 miles north of Safeco. It says the typical price is $159 per night, so that is less than half price :-) It might be a fairly big walk, but with the money I save I can afford a cab.
good deal
that area near the space needle is a really nice area

Safeco Food
The beer is expensive, but I highly recommend the Thai food. You can get an enormous curry chicken bowl for 7 or 8 bucks. The chicken strips are also a pretty good value. The variety is top notch, though. A lot of ballparks are going that route, but Safeco is up with SF, IMO.
Team 1040 is offering a deal on tickets
If anyone is interested. Link is here. Worth a look if money is a little tight. I have no idea where those seats are located, hehehe.
Booked the hotel today
We’re going with the Mediterranian Inn – about 110$ a night – for my dad, me and my sis.
Getting tickets tomorrow for the three of us too – going to do one game in outfield bleachers, one game in the 2nd level somewhere and try for one down one of the foul lines.

Sweet
I snagged my tickets from ticketmaster. Games one and three behind the M’s dugout, and Game 2 behind the Jays.
Now to finish this sign…
You should let us know where you're sitting
It sounds like we’ll be sitting near you for games 2 and 3. Game 2 we’re in section 139 and Game 3 section 116
Here's where I'm at
Game one: Section 119, row 4
Game two: Section 141, row 1 (squeeee!!!)
Game three: Section 119, row 2
Not too far away at all, just a couple sections.
I'm getting pretty excited about this
A scattering of Jays fans amidst the Mariner faithful, right behind their own dugout
We've decided to stay up top in the 300-level
We’re going to be:
329, Row 4
339, Row 1
320, Row 4

I’ve been to Safeco field once years ago and our first seats were up in the 300’s. It was so high!!! I couldn’t leave the concourse area (not sure if that’s what it’s called) to go to our seats. Mike was forced to trade in our tickets for ones up from the field. Thankfully the people at the stadium had no problem doing that for us!
My sons and I sat at the very top row and still had a great view and enjoyed the game
but yeah was very high and very steep.
Heh, haven't you been to Commonwealth?
That’s walk down from the upper bowl is SCARY. No way that’s up to code :P
I think my issue would simply be if I were to try to lean over the rails and look directly down.

I have...commonwealth is....hopefully one of a kind.
nice part about being at the top of Safeco is that you could turn around and look at the bay.
I am ashamed to say that I don't have anything yet!
But I’ll make sure I’ve got at least a hat before the games.
