Brian Wolfe Optioned to Las Vegas

And Dirk Hayhurst was called up. Dirk was 2-3, 5.11 at Vegas. Yeah, I don't understand why it wasn't Accardo, it makes no sense to me. But Dirk is a favorite of Hugo's and will likely do a good job in that long relief role. As you likely know Dirk writes a Non-Prospect Diary for Baseball America's web site. Don't read too much into the high ERA, the PCL is a batter's league. I guess the reason it isn't Jeremy Accardo coming up is that they want a guy that can go a few innings, but if I'm Accardo I'm feeling pretty ripped off at the moment.

You said it yourself...

Accardo isn’t a long reliever, Hayhurst is. It’s that simple.

Damn Tom, I was coming to post this as fanshot…. beat me to it.

And unfortunately you hit the nail on the head. Accardo is a not a long man and the Jays needed a long man in place of Wolfe.

I'd still like Accardo up....

Camp could be the long man. but that’s going to be the excuse….for some reason the team doesn’t like Accardo.

Accardo's role

Is of a set-up man. With League and Frasor throwing lights out as of late (Knocks on wood), there is no room for him.
Plus apparently we don’t need a bullpen anymore.

Unfortunately a bullpen really needs two longmen, at the very least one with one quasi-long guy.

Currently I would view, Carlson, League, Ryan and Frasor as one inning guys (2 at the most) so if you had bad back to back starts that required a long guy you could be seriously taxed.

Ryan?

If he is pitching one inning, the score better be 978-2

I am not listing the people I want in the game :P I was listing the guys in the bullpen that stamina wise should be 1 (or 2 innings)

Camp and Hayhurst...

Are our top middle-inning guys who can bridge the gap from a short start to our core late-inning guys. I think that we underestimate Camp’s ability as a long reliever. I live in Kansas City right now, and Royals fans are second-guessing themselves letting go of Camp a few years ago. Weird? Yeah. But surprising? Not quite. You need players to go in there and do the dirty work sometimes, and I think Camp has that ability, especially now that Tallet is apparently a mainstay on the rotation.

The Hayhurst call-up, although tough on Accardo, was the right move.

And in my opinion,

and I doubt many others would agree, we should throw Janssen into the middle-inning mix, and have Cecil (or Ray) take his spot in the rotation.

Ray?

He’s on the DL. So he’s not available.

The team doesn't like Accardo...

because he isn’t that good, and hasn’t been since his lost his splitter.

by Brad Fullmer Fan on Jun 3, 2009 11:43 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Do we know he hasn't got it back?

His splits in the minors say he’s been effective against lefties, and his splitter was let him do that in the past.

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

Might be hard to judge if he's good or not from here....

but he’s doing well in Vegas and that isn’t an easy place to throw in.

he also has no options

maybe they’re leaving him down to make absolutely certain his stuff is back before calling him up later?

Should have give him more time

Why sent Wolfe down after 8.1 IP? If its the likes of Brian Burres, yea, I can understand that. But I think Wolfe deserve more time. Maybe just me.

April fools?

Is this Wolfe’s mom?

bahahahahaha, funny man.

i agree, he did seem to be getting a little better near the end

but alas, it was probably too little, too late

by aagoodfella on Jun 3, 2009 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Better near the end?

I could see the argument that he was fine early on, but he allowed 6 hits and 6 ernies the past 2 innings.

his very last inning, he looked better … but like i say, too little, too late

He deserves to stay -- more than BJ Ryan!

Wolfe had an awful week, but his numbers the past two years were pretty respectable. He deserves to stay.

Maybe it was sth mechanical that needs to be fixed, but MLB is not really a place for working out problems.

Maybe he is again being stretched out to become a starter. At least that was JP’s plan for Wolfe last spring, and that’s what Cito said last June.

i cannot believe

we’re standing up for Brian Wolfe – yeah his numbers are skewed by that one awful outing… but man, that was one AWFUL outing.

Any chance we could bring up Accardo(or Murphy) and release Ryan?

by Chesapeake Ron on Jun 3, 2009 10:07 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

release Ryan?

We have to keep paying him to keep him away?……. He urgently needs another mysterious medical condition to return to the DL and stay there.
