Alex Rios goes a little nuts (NSFW Language)
Rios goes a little nuts after refusing to sign an autograph for someone.
A loudmouth gets all tough yelling that he should be lucky someone wants it after his 5 strikeout game and Rios loses it and starts dropping F Bombs left and right... Not exactly a shining moment, but worse part. Someone got it all on tape and god bless the internet it spreads like weeds.
He apologized today and so did the club but still not his finer moment.
Hat Tip to Joanna from Hum and Chuck who got it from the Drunks who got it from the Mockinbird and so on and so on...

Honestly...
I don’t blame Rios. I would snap too if someone tried to take my work performance and give me crap when I’m out with my girlfriend/family. As a bylaw officer, I can see it happening to me and I would snap as well.
If you want to heckle a player, go nuts during the game. When they’re out at a charity gala with wives/family, grow up. Honestly, I would have hit the loudmouthed moron. What a sorry excuse for a “fan”.

You hear a lot of stories about stuff like this from Toronto Fans….
I know some BoSox fans can be really jerks but there was a story cross posted at GoJaysGo about a Sox fan that came up here to watch a game, that was hassled and stuff after the game. I am not just saying heckled, but people actually pushed him and his date. That’s not right.

Nope ... no physicality
yell all you want, but not touching or throwing stuff etc …
and don’t be a mondo gigantic jerkwood and razz your own player after a tough outting … that is just super lame …

Um…they gave him crap because he refused to sign for a little kid. I hate the apologists for when players are assholes.

It wasn’t like he took the paper from the kid ripped it up and spit at him. He declined to give an interview on his way out of a charity event.
Are you saying athletes need to drop anything and everything they are doing to sign autographs? It doesn’t matter that it was a kid and it doesn’t matter that it was only one. Not signing an autograph doesn’t make him an asshole.

overly analyzing
LEVEL 1: Rios should have signed the kid’s autograph … it is not strictly always necessary, but in this case, probably appropriate to do so (it is a kid, it would only have taken a moment) - modest bad on Rios
LEVEL 2: fans escalated the incident by insulting Rios’ play of that day, his season average and his background … the first two (based on the order here) comments are in bad taste from a Blue Jays fan and the last comment was wholly inappropriate - more significant bad by fans
LEVEL 3: Rios started dropping F-bombs - even more significant bad by Rios but mitigated by provocation including (a) frustration over his poor performance earlier that day (b) insults related to that poor performance and © more significant personal insults
IMHO, nobody involved in this incident is wholly innocent (except the kid maybe if he was not the one who chirped about Rios’ average) nor wholly culpable. All adult parties in the encounter share some of the blame and were in part victimis. Rios apologized for his part – so really, the matter, as far the adult parties are concerned, should be considered resolved.
agreed.

While I have said elsewhere on the site
I think Rios should have signed the autograph, I would say that doesn’t make him an “asshole.”
And I say again, why kind of a LOSER fan heckles a player after a charity gala when he’s out with his wife? I know that we currently live in a society where celebrities get their lives dissected, but FFS, that’s well over the line.
