Dallas is a Jewel, Dallas is a Beautiful Sight: Game Thread Jays at Rangers
Toronto Blue Jays at Texas Rangers, Jun 8, 2009 8:05 PM EDT
Tonight we have the Jays starting a 4 game series against the Rangers. Casey Janssen (1-2) goes against Scott Feldman (5-0, 3.79). Janssen hasn't looked good so far this season, which make me sad cause I expected better from him. Feldman started the season in the bullpen but has now made 8 starts for the Rangers. He's been very consistent as a starter, he's never pitched fewer than 5 innings and never more than 6.2 in a start yet this season. Am hoping we knock him out early tonight.
Our same lineup as always. I don't get why Overbay is batting 7th when he's getting on base so well. Miller's been terrible with the bat lately, but maybe he'll pull out of it tonight. We dumped Snider when he was hitting better than this. If you can't hit and can't field....why do you get a major league roster spot.
Anyway if you've miss it, we've had a bit of information on this series on the site today. Hugo answered some questions for the Dallas Morning News, Hugo is clearly the smartest guy I know, but he's off to a Decemberists concert tonight, so we'll miss him in the thread. Also Adam Morris from Lone Star Ball aanswered a few questions from me about the Rangers.
Today's thread title comes from a song called Dallas writen by Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Yeah I know the Rangers play in Arlington but it will do. The only time I've seen the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington was from a plane, landing there one time. It looks beautiful.
Join us in the thread.

geeze pat...way to go out on on a limb....
he ‘Thinks Doc was better in the last start’ when he had a shutout and only threw 97 pitches in the complete game than the start before when he gave up 4 runs and threw 133 pitches….they pay money for that brilliant analysis

well, the first one was against the Angels (5th best hitting in baseball) and the second one was against the Royals (4th worst), so there is a case to be made that Halladay’s results vs. the Royals were artificially inflated by the relative lack of offensive potency of the batters faced

there is a lesson there for Romero … hang and outside = homerun, hang and inside = pop up
by aagoodfella on Jun 8, 2009 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
new pitching rule for Romero
if there is a right handed pitcher at bat and runner on … none of that outside arcing stuff where there is a tendency to hang … but instead keep it low and straight in there

Tom, please explain
why take out Frasor
he is doing great, it is only a one run lead
y risk it with another reliever who may or may not be on tonight …. it makes no sense at all
by aagoodfella on Jun 8, 2009 10:13 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Rarely pitches more than an inning....he's at 1.2 now and warmed up a couple of times...
by Tom Dakers on Jun 8, 2009 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
but he has plenty of gas for another of inning
and you do not need him for a few more days
the other guys can handle the rest of this series
but u would be reluctant to use Frasor again cuz he was spent tonight

i disagree
if you give frasor tomorrow off he should be fine for wednesday if necessary and thursday for sure

I’ve always thought he has the stuff to be the next Jays closer… hes pretty much typical closer material, especially with that splitter working.
I wouldnt mind seeing him as the closer next season, i dont think downs really has closer stuff.

Imagine the crazy sixth happening to last year's team under Gibby?
We’d be looking at a 9-4 loss and moaning about how the Jays fell apart, but instead they bent (a lot) but not broke.
I like this mental toughness of this team over last year’s.
