Don't expect Litsch anymore this season
Blue Jays right-hander Jesse Litsch is scheduled to have Tommy John ligament-replacement surgery on his throwing elbow, according to manager Cito Gaston. The operation will likely take place on Friday and will be performed by arm specialist Dr. James Andrews.
Litsch has been rehabbing his arm at the Jays' complex in Florida since mid April and has met with Andrews twice before coming to this decision. In both prior visits, an MRI exam revealed no ligament damage and Litsch continued on his throwing program.

Our young pitchers are getting serious injuries at an alarming rate with Marcum, Litsch, McGowan and Janssen...pretty crappy news.

What the heck
How could they misdiagnose this so badly? When he got hurt, it was mild forearm discomfort and now he needs his ligament replaced?

I want to know why they're replacing a ligament that they don't think is damaged.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Yeesh
How many of our guys has Dr. Andrews worked on in the last 5 years?
Did the throwing program aggravate it to require this or was there always concern I wonder?
this doesn't surprise me at all
I thought it was TJ time the second he left the game. Very sad — hope he recovers and comes back strong!

I felt like something is wrong with that guy’s arm. Don’t want to see it again… looked painful.

An interesting analysis was on BtB a little while ago
This guy dug through the injury reports/DL lists from 02-08 and compiled the stats. Turns out the Jays aren’t that bad in terms of injuries – lower 1/3 or 1/2 depending on which breakdown you’re looking at.

makes you wonder if there is something in the handling of these pitchers that is leading to these injuries. Is that three or four guys now that needed TJ surgery?

Marcum, BJ and now Litsch.
I don’t think McGowan did…I honeslty don’t know what has kept him out so long?

not positive
but i think McGowan did, but Marcum tore his labrum

Wasnt Marcum Tommy John and Dustin was another type of Shoulder surgery.
Remember they were originally talking about have Dustin in May…. then it got bumped to July/August and then maybe not at all this year. If it was Tommy John it wouldn’t have even been a discussion for the first 5 months of the season

McGowan's most recent injury was labrum fraying
but he has also had TJ surgery. Of course, from pitching in the minors, not for the Jays, but still in the organization.

Oh really? Didn’t know that. I was referring to the most recent injury but that is good to know.
