Visiting Toronto
Hey guys, I'm a Ranger fan from over at Lone Star Ball and am planning my annual baseball roadtrip. This year I will be visitng Toronto on 8/7 to catch a game and then I'll be off to the next stop. While I'm there, is there anything I need to see or do (other than the game) before moving on...restaurants, a particular regional beer I need to try, historical sites, areas to avoid, etc? Also, if anyone has tips on getting cheap tickets (coupon codes - we practically give away Rangers tickets to get people to show up) that would be helpful as I am on a budget. Thanks in advance.

Canadian Beer.
You mentioned “regional beer”, so I thought I’d put in my $0.02
The reason I say this is Americans often come up to Canada, have a couple Labatts Blue or Molson Canadian and think, “Canadian beer, whats the big deal?”
You probably won’t find these at the Rogers Centre, but go to a local pub and try a good “Canadian Beer”. My list of top 5 Canadian Beer:
1) Moosehead
2) Sleemans Honey Brown
3) Alexander Keiths
4) Rickards White
5) Kokanee Gold

That being said, I've never been in Toronto, except for the airport.

do not forget
beer sold in Canada has higher alcohol content than beer sold in US (even American brands I think) so you need to pace yourself accordingly … you do not want to be too blotto ’ d when watching the game

8/7 game
I am not aware of a discount specifically, however
if you can, I would recommend getting a seat on the 3rd base side of the field as the 8/7 game is a night game. If they have the roof open, you will be looking up at the CN tower and they light it up a night. It is a nice little bonus during the game.
You could go up the CN tower if you have time. It is a cool view (on a clear day you can see Buffalo, they say) and they have a restaurant up there and a glass floor to look down on the city. It is or was (not sure) the tallest free-standing structure in the world.

CN Tower
The CN Tower was the world’s tallest freestanding structure on land from 1975 until Burj Dubai surpassed it in 2007, rising 553.33 m (1,815 ft). It is currently the world’s tallest completed freestanding structure on land.

also
it’s right next to the Rogers Centre! (our “stadium”/“event venue” but that’s a story for another day)

I'm not a Toronto native
I was raised in New York City, and have only visited T-Dot. However, I have to tell you, you’re going to have a great time. Toronto is one of North America’s best cities – the diversity of people and things to do is fantastic and I have always had a great time there.
I really like the St. Lawrence and Kensington Market areas – lots of great restaurants and bars – and the St. Lawrence market is within walking distance of Skydome. The Harbourfront area is definitely worth walking around, and the Toronto Islands are a nice quiet getaway from the big city, as is High Park. The golden horseshoe area is cool too.
For Canadian beers, particularly if you like microbrews, C’est What near the St. Lawrence Market is a great place to go as they have only Canadian beers, from across the country, on tap – they also have some of the bigger Canadian breweries but not the giants. It’s not a sports bar but they often have good live music.

Take a brewery tour
The Steamwhistle brewery is right next to the Rogers Centre and offers tours (that start and end with sampling beer, doesn’t get much better than that). This combines local flavour, tourist attraction, historical building and regional beer all in one. Nice!

Not sure about discounts,
but if you are on a budget… going up the CN tower isn’t exactly cheap, There are different levels but even just going up to the observation deck costs about 30-40 bucks if I remember.
