Rolen Rumours
Buck Martinez thinks that Rolen makes a lot of sense for the Reds...Todd Frazier, Homer Bailey, Chris Heisey are all interesting names that could fit well for the Jays though no other 3B option for this year or next is a hinderance

I guess Frazier
doesn’t count as a third baseman? I remember he was drafted as a SS, but it looks like he has mostly only played left field and first base this season, though I admit I don’t know enough about his defense to know for sure that that’s due to defensive shortcomings.

As much as I like to watch Rolen
his trade value isn’t going to be higher than it is at the moment, if a decent trade comes it wouldn’t be a bad thing.

totally agree
for once :)
Like Hugo I don’t know much about Frazier’s D but he has played some SS and 3B in the past…if the Jays want an OF then Chris Heisey seems to be having an amazing season in AAA…

oh we've agreed a bunch.,..
Just I wanted to call you out on the ‘everything good with the team was from Cito and everything bad was JP’s fault’. I wanted to see if you really thought then, but then it turned in to an optimism thing, which had nothing to do with subject at hand. I’m not even against firing JP, I just thought if you were framing the ‘Fire JP’ question it should be done fairly, because course he has done things right.

agreed
JP has done a lot of good things, he has built up a minor league system at at one point under his own tenure looked pretty bad – I’m sure there are others too :)
As for ‘Cito isn’t to blame, it’s all JP’s fault’ that maybe didn’t come out right – I was trying to say that the credit for the early success of the season shouldn’t really be given to JP, the team was basically the same as it was last year minus AJ Burnett so he didn’t do much if anything in the off-season to make them better, what made them better was Cito and his staff and the growth of Lind and Hill – now that they aren’t playing well the blame can be pointed at JP for NOT making the team better in the off-season, but some of it can be pointed to Cito too for being a statue in key situations and some of the blame can also be pointed at injuries whether they are someone’s fault or not that is besides the point they have led to the demise of the team

In the end...
I think it comes down to firing JP and Cito and starting fresh – It would be nice if that new GM was around now to make (or not make) the Roy Halladay trade and other rumoured trades but that isn’t likely to happen. I just hope that Paul Beeston (or whoever the President is now) has a great deal of input when it comes to any organization altering trades.

hmm
“credit for the early success of the season shouldn’t really be given to JP, the team was basically the same as it was last year”
I’m not sure what your point is here. J.P. made the team last year.

It wasn't like he was going to be given a bunch of money to make changes either.
It’s funny, we get some that hate Cito and think he should be fired. Then we had one last month say that JP had never made a good trade in his life. Hugo had to note that 3 of our 4 infielders came by trade.
The problem with discussing firing JP is that some folks come to it with the ’he’s never done anything right’ bit which doesn’t push the argument forward.

Yep
There are reasons to fire J.P. (and some to fire Cito as well). But to say that the guy has never done anything makes no sense. Even if you want to blame him for the injuries (I heard that RickRo is hyper-allergenic!), you still have to give him credit for identifying starters for coverage who are decent enough to keep this team in it.
We’ve lost a lot of games recently, but they’ve been close games . . . a few of them go the right way and this team could be in the hunt for the wildcard. I think folks focus too much on results (i.e., Did we make the playoffs?) than on the process (i.e., did our GM just trade Ryan Church for Jeff Francouer?).
J.P. has certainly had his share of mistakes process-wise, but as hugo pointed out earlier, he seems to have learned from his mistakes some. If he gets fired and some other team hires him and they make the world series, people will hate him even more.

If we traded for Francouer I'd be at the front of the 'He has to be fired' parade.

you'd hope it'd be a long parade

If we traded Vernon Wells for Jeff Francouer?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

Thanks. I was taking a drink while reading that GM trade thing….

I spilled an entire
newcastle in my Powerbook G4 one time. I disconnected it and let it sit for three full days, then fired it back up and it worked great. It was amazing.
