Question for the morning.
This was in the questions Sports Weekly asked, so you can find my answer here, but thought I'd ask it of the group. If you could take one player off each of the other AL East teams and put him on the Jays, who would you pick? Don't worry about contracts, we'll figure how to pay them later, but future value would be something to consider. So give us your picks.

Baltimore – Nick Markakis
Boston – Youkilis
New York – Jeter. Actually, perhaps Sabathia
Tampa Bay – Longoria

PLAYOFFS!!!!1
I'll play
Orioles: Adam Jones. Defense up the middle plus hitting and power – that’s what we thought we were paying Vernon $126 million for.
Rays: Evan Longoria.
New York: Phil Hughes. I think he’s going to be a very good pitcher for a long time to come.
Boston: Dustin Pedroia. Excellent hitter, very good defense up the middle. I’d like to say we could move Hill to SS, but I think he might actually have to move to 3rd, he looks like he’s slowing down (and bulking up) a bit as he ages.
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
New York: Teixiera (He’s simply that good. He’s also one of the youngest position players on the roster, and pitching is not exactly where we need the most help at the moment)
Boston: Papelbon (Because in spite of previous statement, we DO need a full-time closer)
Tampa Bay: Longoria (for reasons that I hope don’t require explanation)
Baltimore: Markakis (I was impressed with him the couple games I saw last series)

following Blue and White Expat’s lead, I am going to have my picks influenced by current needs of the Jays
Boston: Beckett (this is a real tough choice for me between Beckett, Youk and Martinez cuz, in the latter case, the Jays could really use a C with a strong bat, but Beckett is just too good to pass on)
Baltimore: Jones
New York: CC, ugh, another tough one, between CC and Teixera, but am going with CC, cuz he is good pitcher and uses up lots of innings thus providing much relief to BP
Tampa: Longoria
I'll take
Baltimore: Weiters (prime bat at a weak position)
New York: Teixeira (one of my favourite current players)
Boston: Vmart (nice fill in at DH)
Tampa: Longoria (easiest choice of the bunch)
My picks
Orioles: Matt Wieters…Catching solved for the next 10 years.
BoSox: John Lester…not that we need another young lefty but still
Yanks: Tex, would fill in nice for Overbay
Rays: Longoria
Tex: hes a beast on the bat and has gold glove defense. 35+ homers is a given
V-mart: a catcher/DH with a good avg and OBP
Longoria: there is a big hole at 3rd, and Longoria is amazing. he is a-roid-esque without the roids
Jones: need another OF

i'll go with
Orioles: Matty “God in cleats” Wieters. how can you not want a guy with a nickname like that?
Rays: Evan Longoria.
Red Sox: Clay Buchholz.
Yankees: Mark Teixeira.
Josh Beckett
Mark Teixiara
Evan Longoria
Adam Jones
Pretty simple if you ask me. Would have picked A-roid if he wasn’t so bad this year

Cherry Picking (ignoring contracts)
Yankees – Teixiera (sorry Lyle but we need to have a real clean-up hitter)
Red-Sox – Bay (Gotta love the Canadian talent), he can play left and Lind can DH or play 1st
Rays – Crawford can play centre or right (and Wells the other), bat leadoff, and his speed is game-changing
Baltimore – Wieters – talented young switch hitting catchers are hard to come by
I could live with Longoria instead of Crawford because we do need a better 3B and live with Papelbon over Bay because we could use a solid stopper but I’d rather have my picks in my line-up and worry about fixing the other parts later.
'some witty quote'
Too Lazy to Care
NY – Teixiera. No doubt
Sox – Buckholz. I’d choose Beckett but I can’t imagine the prospect of cheering for him because he’s such a douche.
TB – Longoria.
Bal – Wieters. I’d love to take Jones, but Wieters is the best looking prospect at a premium position.
This exercise really made me consider how thin this team is. The only position that doesn’t need an upgrade is 2B, DH, and LF (I believe in Snider).
